Let's Get Right Into It!

If you have not read my previous post about Scrap Mechanic, I highly suggest going back to check it out as it describes the game and leads up to this post.

Axolot, the publishers of a game you may know such as Raft, has a distinct way of updating their games to pull in new players and bring attention to the game. I bring up Raft because Scrap Mechanic was given the same update name as that, which is the mysterious "Chapter 2" title.

Both games equipped with this mysterious update title have good reason for it, these chapters are known to be big releases for the game that adds a ton of storyline value. As well among other things, QoL patches and new innovative items. The Scrap Mechanic Chapter 2 update hasn't released yet but if the devblogs and Raft update says anything, this will be quite the experience.

New POI's

Jumping right into the good stuff, Scrap Mechanic will hold a brand new island with some buildings, but also with a never-before-seen mechanic of drilling into the earth and getting into collapsed mines.

Not only will you be able to actually build vehicles and mine into the ground, but you may uncover some deep mysteries and even an underground facility!

May I say, this is extremely exciting to see. For more than a year, the game had only one way of gathering metal and stone, but this new mechanic might make mining even easier or make it even more fun. We will have to see what exactly this idea becomes as time progresses and update time draws closer.

New Additions

While there is some hints of tons more items to be added to the game, we are shown some cool player-requested things to help exploring and building new machines.

Sticky Wheels

For the first time since survival release, we have new wheels coming! These wheels are sticky and will help traverse over steep mountains or even buildings. I cannot wait to see what can be done with these wheels in the sense of automation.

Cable Bots

In comes one of the newest bots that will make travelling and keeping your machines safe a pain. The Cable bots are small machines that attack you and your creations while you are in the mine. One must be careful and attack these swiftly as they come in hoards and leach off of your materials.

Battery Generator & Digital Signs

Along with the previous, we now have a way to recharge batteries without spending a fortune on the resources to make them constantly. The battery generator will need a gas engine to operate to twist and cause the electricity generation but gas is much easier to acquire. An item like this was highly requested by the community so we are all very happy this is coming.

Digital signs are as one would imagine, we will soon be able to craft signs and write whatever we want on them, for travelling, loot sorting, or just cosmetic reasons.

Adjustable Wedges

Wedges have been in the game but were a pain to craft, carry, and use on the vehicle but now comes an adjustable wedge block that you can click and drag and will make the angle with only one item. This was by far the biggest QoL item update and immensely asked for by the community.

Plasma Drill & Saw

Of course! How could we forget about the new drills and saws to make life easier, with the new POI's and mining mechanic, a new and upgraded saw/drill needed to be added. Fascinatingly, not only will the new equipment be useful for making survival easier, but it is also needed for progressing through the mines itself in Chapter 2. You can catch a glimpse of the drill in one of the above pictures 😉 As of right now everything is still in drawing/testing phase and are not completely ready for deployment just yet.

That's about it!

There is a couple other smaller things but they do not add too much compared to the rest, such as cosmetic items and some NPC's but they are only for interacting with the story and do not add much else.

What is crazy is this is one part of the update and a previous major devblog has came out for a completely different side of things. I decided not to cover that today with how much new stuff is added but I can definitely cover that if there is demand for it.

This game truly is one of the most fun small project, solo games that I have played in quite a while. I don't do justice in explaining the experience I've had but I promise you that it is worth the money you pay for when there is a dry season in triple-A releases.

Everything shown and described is the from Devblog listed here if you are interested in learning more or reading it for yourself.

Thank you for reading!
Until next time...
