While I'm not a big fan of horror videogames, this time and due to the success of the Silent Hill franchise and the original game, I decided to talk a little about it today. Silent Hill is a survival horror game which was created by Keiichiro Toyama for various platforms including PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation Vita, however this post as I said is dedicated to the original game and therefore, I will focus on breaking down each of the most important aspects I saw of this game. The story of it tells us how our main character Harry Mason who travels through a cursed town called Silent Hill, all with the goal of finding his daughter who is missing. The story of this game is usually amazing, mysterious and very interesting, being the best thing that every detail that we are shown in the game of the plot means something that will help us to continue to understand so that we can move faster and overcome the various missions. A game that is quite complete as far as its history is concerned where the creator did a great job. This game was released on January 31, 1999 originally for PlayStation.

In terms of gameplay this game is similar to Resident Evil as far as the game mechanics are concerned, but however Silent Hill focuses more on psychological terror, which fits really well and is what I liked most about this game. The gameplay is usually very addictive and entertaining so we want to play for hours and hours, something that is positive because it gives us to infer how interesting this game is, beyond that it is not quite perfect, but the important thing is that we enjoy it quite a lot. Now the control of the game can be a little rough when it comes to handling the character, that is, to move the character, however, in general the game in this aspect is quite complete and well done, with some details that could be improved, but nothing that disqualifies this game. As it is important to mention that our protagonist is a simple common human, that even he does not know how to use weapons or defend himself, this we will achieve as we progress through the game and we get better resources that allow us to advance faster in the game and complete the missions. At the beginning of the game we have no weapons and we must defend ourselves with anything, even with a stick, something that seems to me that goes according to the plot that tells us this game, so I think it is a success.

The game had 3 levels of difficulty which were easy, normal and hard, where each of them was well adjusted to the type of difficulty. In my case I tried all three, however in the end I used the normal difficulty to try to finish the game, although if I'm honest I did not succeed, perhaps not because I could not do it, but because this genre of games is not my favorite and then I focused on playing others, however this does not mean that the game is bad, on the contrary I found it very fun so I decided to play it. In addition, the game has a good amount of resources that we will find as we progress through the story, with weapons of better caliber and more powerful weapons that help our character to defend himself better and better from his enemies to achieve the goal of finding his daughter. Among the weapons we can have both firearms and target weapons, as well as other resources that gives the player good options and so we can choose the one of our preference.

Anyway, although at the time there were already several horror games or survival horror, Silent Hill and gave a more psychological touch which made players enjoy the gameplay as we had something that was innovative and was a success on the part of the creators of this game, Since the same for me is one of the best games I played in this genre and so much was its success, which came out other presentations which made this game a franchise in one of the best we've seen, at least from my humble opinion that I'm not a fan of this genre.

Its graphic section was not the best of the time and more comparing it with other games, however it had visual effects that made it something interesting and not all bad, such as the fog that was the point with which it could cover much of the shortcomings that this game had in this aspect, however I can not help but tell you that the game was quite disappointing in this aspect, I expected something better. But well, this fog beyond covering the technical flaws of the graphics was also a hallmark of this game, it gave it its own identity, something that is always well seen and received by the players. The fluidity of the game seemed quite good to me. In short, the graphics are nothing outstanding but it does have some pluses like the fog that gives some uncertainty or suspense to players when moving through the ghost town or Silent Hill horror, as we do not see very well and we can find surprises that may not be anything pleasant to see. The animations were not bad at all, I liked them a bit, besides the visual effects of the blood splattering when shooting the enemies that we were finding on our way.

The sound of the game was what I liked most about the game along with the gameplay. The sound effects are heard very well, it gives us some uncertainty because in many things we hear terrifying sounds that we do not know where it comes from something that I think is pretty good for the genre of the game, because between the fog that does not let us see and these sounds, make the sound section has its own stamp. What is the soundtrack is very epic, the best of the sound section, product of the great work done by Akira Yamaoka, who knows how to convey feelings in a masterful way in each work, especially when it comes to feeling dread, something that is quite prominent in this game. For the rest I have nothing else to highlight since the rest seems to me to be quite basic.

In conclusion I can tell you that we are in the presence of one of the best retro horror games, because of how addictive and entertaining it became. The gameplay is one of the best things about this game beyond how uncomfortable it can be to control the character but otherwise is pretty good, a good story, the game has a good difficulty levels according to our preference and skills for the game, plus our character to be a normal person the same does not know how to fight or use weapons so we must be learning along the way, at least that's what I understand from what tells us the excellent plot and very well told story. The graphics are a weak point but as I said the game had its success because the gameplay was enjoyed in such a way that the game was quite addictive. The best thing about the sound is the soundtrack and the sound effects that were quite scary because we did not know where the sounds came from and we were always with high expectations.
