I think it might be
I recently completed the main story for God of War and all I can say is that this is a game that everyone needs to experience. It has everything you could ever want from a game. Amazing graphics, gripping story-line, awesome characters, some of the best voice acting in gaming, and such a cool journey from beginning to end.
Speaking of graphics, you can tell that the devs spent a ton of time creating this world. There are so many details all over to really pull you into this world and make you forget you are playing a game. Just look at the level of detail in this one room. Normally games tend to reuse a lot of textures throughout the world, but in GoW, they really go above and beyond to give each area a significantly different look and feel.
The story of the GoW series really shines in this installment as you travels around the different realms. The game's premise sounds simple enough where you begin the game with the task of spreading Kratos' wife's ashes from the highest peak. Then along the way, you are confronted by gods that want to kill you and so many different enemies along the way.
Then before you know it, you are fighting the gatekeeper of Helheim so that you can rip out his heart because Freya needs it as an ingredient of one of her spells.
The characters in the game are amazing and the dynamic between Kratos and his son Atreus is beautifully written and acted. When Atreus falls ill and almost dies, it is a pretty gut wrenching part of the game because up to this point, I had really begun to get attached to him.
The way they portrayed Kratos during this part was just amazing story telling. Kratos has killed countless enemies and is extremely brutal in his ways, but when Atreus falls sick, you see a totally different side of him. He is extremely gentle with his body and you can see the desperation in his eyes as he pleads with Freya for help. The fact that they were able to capture so much emotion with his character is simply amazing.
Speaking of Kratos' brutality, the game has plenty of it. One of the greatest things about the GoW series is the combat and it really shines in this one. The fights can get crazy as you chop apart enemies with your axe or blades.
Kratos' blades were such an iconic weapon in the previous games and the moment that Kratos had to go and get the blades was so cool.
This game takes you on the most amazing journey in gaming and to places you had never thought of. They just announced that this game is going to be released on the PC in January, so a whole new audience will be able to enjoy before the launch of Ragnarok.
Without giving up too much of the ending, this game ends in such an awesome way that really sets the stage for the next game.
In the end, Kratos and Atreus did make it to Jotunheim to spread the ashes. We also find out that Atreus' mother was a giant from Jotunheim, so that makes Atreus part giant, god, and human. We also find out who Atreus really is, but you will have to play the game to find that out for yourself.
Overall, this is one of the greatest, ever created and I am happy to have been able to experience it. This is a perfect game in every aspect and if you have never played it, you should really change that. You will have an amazing time.
