Howdy Gamers
In this video we are checking out a cool little 2d side scrolling action RPG called Tails Of Iron.
We play the roll of a mouse prince named Redgi....Lets dive into the story...
"For centuries and longer ,Rats have fought tirelessly to repel the incessant frog invasions"
"Peace was only ever short lived"
"Until finally a young Monarch rose to power..."
"King Rattus, first of his name, unified the Rat kingdoms under one rule, repelling Green Wart and his kind ,back to the putrid swamps from whence they came"
"Crops prospered. Families flourished. And the magnificent Crimson Keep climbed ever higher toward the sky"
"But as time passed. King Rattus the Saviour grew old...and the Kingdom, vulnerable once more"
"His people grew anxious...some claiming to perceive a faint odour in the air"
"Green Wart had returned, with a ferocious vengeance."
"Amassing an army of unfathomable scale, he burned everything in his path...towards the Crimson Keep!"
"King Rattus gazed down upon his withered claws, barely able to hold the Crown, he had little hope wielding a sword"
"So it was decided, the crown should pass to whiskers new..."
"Arise young prince, for the Kingdom needs a hero"
"And so your tail begins..."
The characters in this game communicate by whistling a song which brings up a series of images...
Redgi's squire is telling him he needs to get dressed.
Opening the wardrobe brings up our inventory screen.
We should probably upgrade our armour to something better than pyjamas.
First up a nice feathered head dress.
Next a leather chest piece.
Lets add a medium round shield.
And lastly a sword.
We have the option to toggle variant skins on most of Redgi's gear giving us some freedom to customise his look.
Now that we are dressed the squire tells us we need to go and see King Rattus.
"If he had known how unlike a dream today would be.... he might have stayed in his bed"
Bringing up the map we can see King Rattus's location within the Crimson fort.
When we reach the Kings chambers the squire tells us to sit and wait on the bench.
These benches are our save points, each time you sit the game will save your progress.
The squire informs us its time to go and see the King.
The King lets us know that today is the day we must partake in a trial by combat .We have to fight our older brother to see who is the most worthy of the crown.
First we need to eat some food to gain some strength for the fight.
"All the prince had ever wanted was to prove worthy of his fathers crown. He might be the smallest brother, but if he was prepared, he thought he had some small chance."
Heading into the kitchen we find Redgi's other brother, the Chef.
Before he can cook us a meal we need to find some ingredient's.
Heading to the back of the kitchen we find the cellar.
Now we have all the ingredient's the Chef can prepare a meal which raises Redgi's stamina.
Redgi has another brother who is a blacksmith , if we find plans he can forge weapons and armour for us. When we visit him for the first time he makes us this medium helmet.
Before we head to the trail by combat we need to train in the basics of combat.
Its time to lean how to fight.
Im using a PS4 controller , we need to use the R1 button to attack.
When the opponent is getting ready to use a red attack we need to use the circle button to dodge it.
Yellow attacks cant be dodged , instead we need to use L2 and R2 to parry them with the shield.
That's basically how combat works in this game , we press R1 to attack , R2 to block ,circle to dodge and R2 and L2 at the same time to parry.
With basic combat training complete Redgi attacks the training dummy until it explodes.
The only other thing we need to know is how to restore Redgi's health. He needs to drink bug juice which can be collected from these kegs or as loot from slain enemy's.
We use the L1 button to drink from the bug juice canteen to restore health.
With the basic training quest complete its time to head over to the trail by combat.
To get to the trail grounds we need to head out of the Crimson Fort and across the courtyard.
And now the time has come for the brothers to prove their worth in the trail by combat.
The fight was actually quite challenging .I failed it on the first attempt but succeeded on the second attempt.

Redgi has proved himself worthy of his fathers kingdom!
Just as the king goes to pass the crown to Redgi he is hit with Green Warts spear and killed!
The Rat Kingdom is invaded by frogs and with that Redgi's dream has come apart!

We have to fight Green Wart , I was knocked unconscious pretty quickly which Im sure is what is supposed to happen. It makes me wonder if I was better prepared for this fight can we kill Green Wart here? Its probably unlikely ...
"The prince woke this time from a dream of blood and frogspawn, finding he had neither a crown, nor a Kingdom... nor a father."
Awaking from underneath a pile of rubble all we have is this weak rusty sword...
We need to make our way back to the Crimson keep but now the way is guarded by frogs!
Heading into the sewers Redgi encounters a couple of bugs, when we loot them we get this cool little animation of him hacking the bugs up with his knife.Doing this gives us bug juice to restore our health and bug parts which I guess can be used for crafting.
At the bottom of the sewers we need to fight a big bug...
When Redgi attacks something he gets splattered with its blood which is a nice little graphical touch...
At the bottom of the sewer we find the key to the Crimson Fort...
Lets head out of these sewers...
When we reach the Crimson Fort we find it is guarded by Frogs which Redgi needs to slay, getting beautifully splattered in their green blood in the process...
Time to head inside the Crimson Keep...
This time we have 3 frogs to fight, we need to block their arrows,2 arrow hits and its game over...
With the third frog slain Redgi recaptures the throne room...This was a tricky fight.I figured it would be fun for you guys to watch so I cut this one out of the video to, you can watch the successful attempt in the video below.
It seems our next stop is Long Tail village, we need to go their to rescue Redgi's brother the Chef.
Before we can travel we need a hammer and nails to repair the travel board.
Now that the travel board is repaired we can use it to travel to Long Tail village.
"Long Tail Village always smelled of fresh wholebug bread before. Now it reeked of burning fur and gore. And something putrid. Pond slime and those that dwelt in it. The Frog Clan brothers!"

I'm loving this game so far, I really like the art style. The combat is challenging but satisfying and the story is pretty cool.
