Tribes of Midgard: an Action/Survival RPG where each game takes 2 hours

Hi everyone! Its my first post on Hive Gaming, just wanted to share about this game I've been playing recently. I found it on sale in Steam about a week ago so i bought it to play with my friends!

Disclaimer: Your games can last way shorter than 2 hours, depends on how long you survive xD But my games usually last around 2 hours

Introduction

Tribes of Midgard is based on Nordic mythology. You are an Einherjar (a warrior from Norse Mythology) sent to defend the Tree of Yggdrasil in Midgard. Every night, armies of Hel will attack your village, and you will have to fend them off. There are also giants (Jötunn) who will attack your village, and it will be your duty to stop them before they reach the Tree of Yggdrasil.

The tree in its full glory on day 1:

The game can be played in co-op sessions of up to 10 people, or you can do it solo as well, the monsters' stats will scale based on the number of players in the session.

There are two game modes:
-Survival, where you try to, well, Survive and
-Saga Mode. In this mode, there is an additional boss to fight, and you only have 14 days to try and do so, after 14 days Fimbulwinter starts, where there is only night and no day, so your village is constantly being attacked and you can't really do much.

Each game generates a new world, so the map of the area will be different. To leave the game and earn rewards (EXP and Golden horns), you have to leave the world via the Bifrost

Classes
There are a total of 8 classes in the game, however only the first two will be unlocked at first, you ill unlock the rest after completing certain objectives in the game in Saga mode.

My Experience
I've only played Saga mode for now, and it is pretty hectic. You have to balance adventuring for resources with defending your village, as well as trying to work towards reaching the Saga boss, and after that, trying to kill the Saga boss while making sure your tree is well protected at night. Here is how the Saga boss looks like:

On top of all that, every 4 nights there will be a Blood Moon where your village will be attacked by alot of monsters, including a miniboss. He is quite painful, with an AOE attack so you have to deal with him quickly. The 4 armed monster with a yellow health bar is the miniboss:

Almost everything you do gives you souls ( gathering materials, defeating enemies, opening chests etc), which are used to fortify your village by building and upgrading Archer Towers and Village Gates. You have to learn to manage your Souls well, as dying will result in all souls on you to be lost.
You can also give souls to your Tree of Yggdrasil. The tree can hold up to 10k Souls as its 'health', and once it reaches 0 your game ends.

I once focused too much on the Saga boss and my tree died at the exact moment I defeated the Saga boss. Its game over once your tree dies, you dont get any golden horns from the run.😭

My first game was played with my friends, and we survived a good 15 days in Saga Mode.
Each day in game is around 10 minutes, so that one game took around 2.5 hours. We didn't know that the Saga mode has a boss to kill, so we just gathered resources and protected our tree carefully for 15 days 😃 At around day 15 we almost got overwhelmed by monsters and our tree was running low so we made a run for the Bifrost.

It was really fun and we didn't even realise how long we had played until we looked at the time and realised 2 hours had passed.

My set-up for most runs will be to work towards the Sigyn's Blade III and Nornir Axe II. They both have a healing skill which helps alot in fights

The reward system for Tribes of Midgard is special as well, you bring nothing out of every game but you do gain exp and Golden Horns, a form of currency. You can use Golden horns to either buy cosmetics in the shop or buy runes in-game, which only lasts for the game itself. Runes are like special buffs that give you an advantage in the game. For example one rune will allow you to deal more damage for each armor slot that is empty, effectively turning your character into a glass cannon. Runes can also be found while adventuring/ defeating monsters.

The exp you gain gives you levels and for every level you gain, you also unlock either cosmetics, more golden horns or new runes that you can find in game.

You can also get starter kits, allowing you to start a fresh world with a specific set of items such as tools, runes etc.

Tip of the day:
IF you are considering playing this game, be VERY CAREFUL near water. once you fall in you immediately die and lose all your souls. If you are constructing platforms across bodies of water(yes you can construct platforms and ramps in true fortnite style), make sure to kill any monsters chasing you, as they will prioritise breaking your constructions over killing you. Its extremely painful watching yourself die to mere water, it has happened too many times to me 🤡

Its been about a week or more since i first got the game, and I've played for around 25 hours now ( or like 12 games or so lmao ) and i can now solo clear the Saga boss and leave via Bifrost most runs, its pretty satisfying but it is getting kinda repetitive. I'm thinking of joining in multiplayer worlds via matchmaking soon, as well as trying out survival and attempt to survive 100days :)

I'll share my experience here again :D

I was gonna share one game i played but my recording has issues :( guess i'll share it again next time
