What's Buzzing Friends...
If you're like most people - and by most people I mean mostly all people - if you're dead, you probably won't go on to win an Olympic gold medal, no matter how hard you try. However this is not the case when you're talking about "Betty Robinson".
Betty Robinson, or as she was born with the name "Elizabeth R. Schwartz", came into our world in Riverdale, Illinois. She is also the first woman to win an Olympic Gold medal at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games. #awesome!
That would make a great story within itself, but Betty's rise from the grave to win the Olympic gold metal is even more interesting.
In an afternoon, she jumped in a plane with her cousin "Wil" for a ride into the clouds. A little far outside the city of Chicago, the plane stalled and crashed. The people who found the wreckage found Betty. Her legs were broken and twisted, and her head was bleeding. Instead of taking her to the doctors, they took her to the undertakers who declared her dead on the spot. However, shortly after they noticed her still breathing, they took her to the hospital right away.
The doctors said she would never run or walk again, yet she walked, she ran, and took home an Olympic gold medal.
