🧬DNA Project - First Year Report

H

ello all! We are writing this report after a very long time. So, this time, we are here with a combined report for the months : November, December 2020, combined with a general overview of what all happened and changed during the first year of DNA´s existence and our ambitious plans for the new year.

DNA searches for HIGH-QUALITY posts that aim to DESCRIBE and determine the BIODIVERSITY AROUND YOU with added EXPLANATIONS and INFORMATION. For these informative posts DNA offers a CURATION SERVICE using the @dna.org account. It is also a CURATION TRAIL. In addition we run the SPECIES HUNT which aims to COLLECT and COMPILE the BIODIVERSITY all over the world on an external and public accessible website.

Monthly Report and Changes (Nov 2020)

(Special thanks to @tibfox for managing the curation services and automation)

2. DNA is A Community Effort

DNA is not a project being run from / under the name / ownership of any personal account / person. DNA is home to different communities and is essentially a community project. Our funds are collected through donations and the project is owned by the community.

At the moment DNA is the home of #amazingnature, #fascinatinginsects for all your posts about insects, #featheredfriends for our feathered friends and the #fungilovers for all your posts about fungi and mushrooms ^^ .. But we hope that more nature related communities will join and participate in this gigantic and ambitious nature project, or maybe some Hiveans start their own little project there ;)

3. DNA is Now Ready to Mutate!

It's been sufficient amount of waiting and planning. Now we'll start implementing some very interesting new projects.

Random mutations are not a good idea! So here we set some rules and boundaries for ourselves...

All of the initiatives undertaken by DNA will follow the below general principles:

  • Every project / initiative will be for the good of the society in general, and will be scientifically driven.
  • The projects will never be oriented to gain profits for ourselves.
  • We'll be paying our staff for all their work as a token of gratitude. (currently, due to lack of sufficient funds, and earnings, we are only able to support them via votes)
  • Whatever extra profits we earn (which we are unable to use for our own functioning), will be donated to organizations working selflessly which DNA deems worthy and needing the donations. (For example : Wikipedia.org, Archive.org, etc)
  • Every DNA initiative will be run as a separate community. These communities together make DNA what it is.

4. Outlook and Future Projects

We are actually planning two big new projects within the DNA community that will be implemented once the actual announced changes are found to work flawlessly and once we were able to gather the necessary expertise:

  • External DNA Website where we will present the collected and compiled Species Hunt posts.
  • DNA Species Hunt Program: We'll be implementing a new program from DNA soon. This program will aim at creating a global Hive-based biodiversity catalogue. We'll encourage people to go out and explore the biodiversity around them and post about the same in a scientifically appropriate manner so that the information collected can be used to create a catalogue of scientific value.

WHAT WE HAVE REACHED SO FAR !!

  • Own discord server DNA DISCORD (Free to be joined by all interested Hiveans) where all the nature lovers of Hive can meet, discuss and share their nature content.
  • We gathered fellow supporters and communities in the DNA project.
  • We created a #Biodiversity-only-post channel where all DNA-members tare allowed to drop post that correlate to DNA´s biodiversity philosophy.
  • We initialized a curation service for all biodiversity posts that are published withing our fellow communities (AN, , FI, FF, FL). All community Moderators are also set to DNA-Curators and have the right to use this curation service.
  • We are also flagging off a new community : the DNA Citizen Science Hub for internal use and posting important announcements. Later on, we might use it for conducting interesting activities and projects run under DNA.

DNA Discord

Within our DNA DISCORD we have created several channels for you.

  • #Home: This channel is for open communication and discussions and also features our monthly Biodiversity NEWS (That will be implemented from now on).
  • #DNA WORK: Here you can post your Species Hunt entries and look up the monthly Species Hunt Reports which care a compilation of all the entries that were submitted. The Species Hunt is the actual work of DNA that is going to start from now on and will be explained in a special post that we are working on right now.
  • #Communities: We also added a channel for each fellow community that supports DNA and calls this project their home.
  • #DNA Curation System: This channel is reserved for all your posts that are following DNA´s biodiversity philosophy. It is also used by all the DNA-Curators for their biodiversity-curation within the DNA communities.

If you are INTERESTED in DNA, please do not hesitate to ask about it, or directly JOIN US in the DNA DISCORD ;), we already have a 200 people strong community here!

DNA Work

We will soon state in a separate posts the implementation of the SPECIES HUNT (simultaneously announced together with this first year report ). This will be the ACTUAL WORK OF DNA that is going to start from now on and. All of your Species Hunt posts will be used one day in our DNA-website that aims to bring the ambitious DNA project beyond the blockchain.

Contest & Challenge: To implement some funny activities for the AN community members and enrich the interactive experience there is a weekly Contest and Challenge. The voting for the winners will be done by the whole DNA community. in the AN community channel in the DNA Discord.
Nature News: There are weekly Nature News that cover recent nature related topics and aims to bring to you some interesting knowledge about what is happening in the world.
Amazing Nature Curation: AN Curators are choosing up to 5 post weekly within the AN community, corresponding to their assigned topic (Botany/Zoology/Geography), and are compiling them into a weekly curation report.

Fascinating Insects Community:

Feathered Friends Community:

Photo Contest: Here you can participate by sharing a post that contains a picture of a bird or birds that matches a specific topic that changes on a weekly basis.
Feathered Friends Curation: The curator chooses several posts per week within the FF community and compile them into a weekly curation report.

Fungi Lovers Community:

FungiFriday Challenge: Every Friday you are welcome to share all your great fungi posts, no mater if they are photos, drawings, art, food or anything else. Just add the #fungifriday tag to it.

DNA Curation and Biodiversity-Posts

We have own curation service for posts withing the fellow communities (AN, FI, FF, FL) for all biodiversity posts. All Moderators of the 3 communities have posting rights and are allowed to to curate those entries in their corresponding communities with the @dna.org account that are suiting the DNA biodiversity philosophy and show and explain the biodiversity around them in great detail.

In addition we have created a #Biodiversity-only-post channel where all DNA members are allowed to drop post their biodiversity posts to their them with other DNA members.

Public Outreach Work

We created a DNA Twitter account and a DNA Instagram account from which we will reblog all out Species Hunt Reports as well as the Biodiversity News. The accounts will be run by @papillioncharity and @melbourneswest for us and are hoped to raise the awareness of what we are trying to create here to people outside of the blockchain. We are still thinking of other ways to increase the awareness of DNA beyond.

DNA Community Rules

  • Only post you own original content into the #biodiversity-post-only channel and do not copy&paste or plagiarize !

  • Do not post pictures without text. As we try to share the biodiversity around us detailed explanations and identifications that suit the AN philosophy are necessary!

  • Always reference the source of pictures and texts, even if they are your own !

  • Use the appropriate "Species Hunt Template" for creating your Species Hunt posts. We will pin it there for you very soon. As we aim to compile them and also want to share them on a external website on day this is a necessary prerequisite.

  • No hate or discriminatory language of any kind or other offensive behavior !
