La fiebre del valle también es conocida como coccidioidomicosis aguda, por lo general suele curar por si sola, en casos graves se requiere de valoración médica para el tratamiento con antimicóticos.

El responsable de generar ésta patología es un hongo. Son dos especies quienes pueden generar la fiebre del valle, se suelen encontrar en regiones específicas y las esporas de los hongos pueden ser esparcidas por el aire por cualquier alteración o manejo del mismo hongo.

Una persona que comienza la enfermedad en etapa aguda si no es tratada a tiempo puede convertirse en una enfermedad grave. Los síntomas se suelen manifestar luego de tres semanas de haber estado expuesto al hongo, los síntomas se pueden confundir con una gripe debido a que son similares, abarcan desde fiebre, tos, cansancio, disnea, cefalea, escalofríos, sudoración nocturna, dolor articular o muscular acompañado de sarpullido en zonas como las pantorrillas, pecho, brazos o espalda.
