Pile up those monsters - Splinterlands tips for new players

Splinterlands is gaining worldwide recognition and new players are joining every minute and purchasing the starter pack.

The discord server of Splinterlands is now really very busy and messages are communicated from all parts of the world 24/7. Though there are country-specific channels, the general chat is also very busy. Sometimes, the important messages such as game tips are overshadowed very fast, so I decided to write down a few tips now and then and hope it shall be helpful to all the new players.

Tips for new players

  • Try to play daily quests regularly and do not miss out on even a single one because you never know if you are going to get a gold foil legendary. It can not only change the game for you but also increase your collection power too. Unless you do not have any other means to invest, please do not sell or burn the card.

  • Make sure you always watch the market for cheap deals. Sometimes, players who are leaving which is unfortunate, try to sell cards in a hurry and lower prices drastically. Look out for such deals and buy them before others buy. Especially the beta and alpha editions or common golds.

  • Common cards may seem insignificant but it really matters and can change the game in no time. It is how you are able to balance a team that matters most and not the card value in $$.

  • Have you made sure you wrote down a list of your cards? Do you have enough of those sneaks and snipes? Sometimes, sneaks and snipes really make a huge difference. Check out the card section in-game or markets and search for the ability - sneak or snipe and make sure you have many of those, especially in the neutral section so that you can use it for any splinter of your choice.

  • Sometimes, you get a ruleset with just enough space for a single or maybe two low-life monsters. Think hard and sometimes not so hard too. There are tricks like choosing the mighty cube and then sitting comfy and watching your enemy sweat it out till fatigue kicks in.

  • Observing top players and what type of monsters they choose for each ruleset helps a real lot. It is how I learned to use the sea monster in a low mana game. The sea monster is powerful especially when it develops thorns.

  • I read a lot of people complaining about a losing streak and some boasting of a good winning one too. Remember to get up and leave when you are on a losing streak otherwise, bad luck just makes sure you slip down even a league, and yes it has happened to me so, I do not make a mistake now unless it's season end and I have not reached my goal yet.

  • Read all about the abilities of the monsters. Have you heard about the monster which can shatter the armor? This ability is especially helpful in the armored-up ruleset.

  • Make sure your summoner can be able to use a monster's ability. It is no use renting a high-level legendary summoner when you cannot make use of it properly. I have fought such a team when the player used the AA but the team consisted of low-level common monsters alone. Even AA could not save such a team, sadly. Please also do your own study before following a YouTuber's advice.

  • Have you wondered why everyone keeps talking about saving your ECR? It is to make sure that you get enough returns in Dec so that it can be helpful in investing back in the game or cashing out if you need the money. It is very hard to get back to 100% if your ECR goes below 40%.

I hope these tips are useful and make sure you share it with your fellow players.
