Getting to Diamond within 1 week playing ?!

Hello everyone ! šŸ¤—
This is my very first post on Peakd and today we talk about Splinterlands and the way I did grind up to diamond league as a new player with minimal investment.

Iā€™ve started playing Splinterlands for 1 week and got instantly hooked by the game and this amazing community.
By joining the community discord, Iā€™ve met quite a lot of nice persons who shared their knowledge with me and I managed to get to diamond.
I wanna give it back to the community, so Iā€™m making this grinding guide and hope you guys love it !

You must be asking yourself how is that even possible to reach diamond that quick ? How much money Iā€™ve spent ?
Well, itā€™s kinda easy to reach diamond if you rent the right cards ! And basically all you need is a spell book, couple DECs, good methodology and thatā€™s it !

Obviously you can speed up the process if you will to invest just a few DECs but you really donā€™t need much than 1000 to start grinding up the leagues.
Are you ready to get those juicy chests ?!

I actually got my first legendary card from my 2nd diamond quest rewards while I was sharing my screen in discord with friends. It was pretty epic !

Before discussing the upcoming guide, I would like to introduce the guys who helped me skilling up to make this diamond dream comes true :
Special thanks to Mister-RKO, Zaza, Zort, ZugZies and all the other people I canā€™t think of.

You can join us on discord if you have any question about this guide: https://discord.gg/rEHM2cbnZ9
We share knowledge, gameplay and discuss any splinterlands related topic šŸ™‚

Now letā€™s jump right into the main subject :

Splinterlands Renting Grinders Guide

First of all, let's introduce the basic idea behind renting cards to climb ladder.

Who is this guide for ?

This guide is made for people who have time to invest, want to become good at the game, play in the high tier leagues and make profit fom it.
If you donā€™t have that much time and prefer to just farming daily quests, this guide might not be for you.
You gotta be ready to invest in yourself, do mistakes and learn from them.

Why do we rent cards ?

The main reason we rent cards is because we wanna be competitive ! The higher you climb, the higher the rewards !
Unless you're some alpha/beta OG or a millionaire you just can't afford buying all cards required to be a Diamond+ player.
Even players having 20k+ $ worth accounts still need to rent cards if they wanna compete high tier leagues.
In a game such as Splinterlands which has rule set changing every battle, you can't just stick to play one deck. The more options you have, the more you can adapt to rules and get those juicy winstreaks.

How is it worth it ?

Every ranked battle you win you get some DECs and its scaling on a few things :

  • Energy Capture Rate
  • The league you're currently in
  • If you're on a winstreak, you get more DECs
  • Every gold foil or alpha card you use in a battle has a 10% bonus DECs reward

So basically if you get the job done properly, the battles you win are gonna pay for your rentals and you're gonna make direct DECs profit.
You will also get more chests from quests and season's end as you can see there: https://splinterlands.fandom.com/wiki/Game_Rewards
(you can check the value of 1 chest there:https://www.splintercards.com/tool-lootchest.html)

Even if you're a new player and make very small profits in the first weeks, you get the most crucial rewards : KNOWLEDGE & SKILL !
On the long run, youā€™re gonna have a lot of fun and knowledge is gonna pay.

STEP 1 : KNOW YOUR BASICS

A lot of players just wanna play and click that battle button over and over again using the same team. THIS IS NOT GONNA WORK !
This game isnā€™t a farming game, itā€™s PvP and you have to be better than your opponent.
In order to do that, the minimum knowledge you must have is to atleast know the basic rules of the game :

  • Placement
  • Abilities

Why would you put a ranger in the frontline if he canā€™t attack ? Why would you place your tank in the backline if he doesnā€™t protect your damage dealers ?

This might sound silly but there are people battling without even understanding those basics or even reading the ruleset of the game theyā€™re going to play.
Any player who barely understands this will achieve Silver league without any effort.

STEP 2 : PREPARING FOR PLAY DAY

In order to maximize the benefit from renting cards for 24 hours, you will have to play a lot on your play day.

To get the most value out of this day make sure you follow those rules :

  • You have a lot of free time and will to grind for several hours (8+ hours)
  • You have to be at 100% DEC Capture Rate before doing your rentals
  • You need to have 1 active quest saved, so youā€™ll get another one during play day (if you didnā€™t know, we can actually stack 2 quests)
  • Donā€™t validate quest until you reach your best league (thatā€™s the main reason we save quests, so we can do both of them in higher leagues and get better rewards from chests thanks to our rentals !)
STEP 3 : RENTING VALUABLE CARDS

ā€œWhich deck should I rent ?ā€ is the most commonly asked question by newcomers.

Thereā€™s no such thing as an ā€œallrounder deckā€. And even if you could grind a little bit just using the same cards/element as much as you can, remember that the more you win, the more profit you make and the faster you grind !
You have to cover different elements to get winstreaks.
There is literally no reason to be a cheapass once you get passed Silver league, its just gonna make you waste time and money !
That said, there is obviously a way to classify cards by value and obviously a cheap card that you can use in a lot of battles is really worth to rent.

Summoners : They determine the level of monsters you can summon, they are CRUCIAL !
Itā€™s always better to have a random high level summoner than a top tier level 1 summoner because what matters the most are the monsters you put on the board.

By example Dragons can summon any card from any element, anyone should grab one !

Neutral cards : Since you will be able to use them in most battles, they are very valuable.
By example cards like Ooze or Chicken are neutrals and also have low mana cost, that means they can be used in most low/mid mana battles: these ones are must have !

Elemental cards : There are plenty of cheap options and a lot of cards can be used to succeed.
You have to think out of the box and avoid those popular cards like Lama, Kron, Zakuā€¦ because they are too expensive and you donā€™t need them to reach Diamond.

Here are the cards I rented when I first got into Diamond, it was around 2 500 DEC invested and I got them all back along the way.
Please do yourself a favor and don't just copy this list ! The market is changing everyday and there might be better deals.
I suggest you to check leaderboards, watch those top player battles and see what they play, you might find some real good strategies from them šŸ˜‰.

image.png

Donā€™t underestimate gold foil and alpha cards ! Itā€™s gonna happen that you find one even cheaper to rent than the regular card and those give more power and DECs bonus from battle, donā€™t sleep on them !

I would also advise you to use https://peakmonsters.com/, this way you can add cards you like renting to your favorites juste by clicking this little blue star buttons and start building up your rentals list.

Also Peakmonsters makes no difference between gold foil, alpha or regular cards so if one is cheaper you will see it and donā€™t miss the good deal !

CONCLUSION :

This guide was made in order to change people's mind about rentals. These are a great investment and you can really take advantage of it.

If you follow those steps wisely you should be able to achieve Diamond sooner than you ever thought ! I hope to see you guys there and wish you the best on your splinterlands journey.

If you have any question or want to discuss more in depth strategies, feel free to hit me up on discord (Tristan#3042). Have a great day šŸ˜‰
