Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! Testing new Strategies with DJINN RENOVA

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and/or read more about the challenge, click here.

We are almost at the end of the season and we are going to focus and learn more strategies with different units that will help up in the next season. In my quest of becoming a better splinterlands player, I am focusing more on individual cards and how they can be used more efficiently in my battles. One such unit which we are going to talk about today is called Djinn Renova.

It is an epic life unit which costs 7 mana. Can this justify this high mana cost? Let's look at its stats in detail.

Djinn Renova is an epic Life unit which came out in the rewards subset of Chaos Legion edition. It has the Strengthen ability but costs 7 mana to use.

It is a powerful mage that deals 3 magic damage with 3-speed points and comes with 6 hp. I had a level 3 unit. It may seem like 7 mana costs are somewhat high but the Strengthen ability can be very beneficial as it gives extra health to all the friendly monsters before the start of the battle.

Now, let's see a battle where I used it to my advantage.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Chanseus the Great
Triage, Repair, Resurrect
Position 1

Position 2

Position 4
War Pegasus

Position 5
Djinn Renova

Position 6

It was a 37-mana battle and it had three interesting rulesets:

  • Earthquake: Non-Flying monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
  • Odd Ones Out: Only Monsters with odd mana costs may be used in battles.
  • Are You Not Entertained: One additional Gladiator card may be used in battles.

Damage from earthquake can be a game changer so I had to make sure I used more monsters with Flying abilities.

Odd Ones Out was also restrictive and half of our units were inactive just because of this ruleset. Fortunately, our highlighted card costs 7 mana and could be used here.

All but water and earth elements were active during this battle.

I used the Chanseus the Great as my summoner as it has the Repair and Resurrect and Triage abilities and would have been useful during this battle.

In the first position, I used the Gargoya Scrapper. It costs just 1 mana so it didn't have great stats but I didn't expect much from this. It was there just to take one or two hits. Even my opponent also used this in the first position.

Next was the Gargoya Devil, although it was a ranged attacker but with its Flying and Close Range abilities you can use it anywhere in the lineup. I used it in the second place as it also had an armour. But in hindsight, it could have been placed somewhere in the middle of the lineup as well.

In the next position, I used the Adelade Brightwing. It was a high costing mage that dealt 2 magic attacks. I used it because it had the Flying ability and would have been beneficial in this Earthquake ruleset. It also had the Repair ability which can repair damaged armour but my lineup had just 1 unit with armour.

War Pegasus came in the next position, it was another ranged attacker with Flying ability. It had good health and speed and also its Shatter ability is helpful against strong tanks.

In the next position, I placed the Djinn Renova, it was the second mage in my lineup and it dealt 3 magic attacks with 3 speeds. Its Strengthen ability is very useful, especially in battles with low-health units.

Last but not least was the Lensmaster, it is a cheap unit costing just 1 mana but with its ranged attack it can be very useful at times. I just had 1 mana left over so I used this. However, it was just a level 1 and had no abilities. Also, it was much easier to deal with and came with only 1 health.

Now my lineup was all set and it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

With 37 mana and a restrive ruleset like Odd One Out, I still had enough monsters to make a powerful lineup. I had seen my opponent's last 5 lineups and they used Earth exclusively which was inactive in this battle. So, I had no clue what I can expect.

But I choose the Chanseus the Great along with as many Flying monsters as I could... keep in mind that one of the rulesets was Earthquake and I had to minimize my damage from that.

I didn't go for the strong tank at the front but used a weaker Gargoya Scrapper... more like a sacrificial unit. Djinn Renova gave extra health to all my monsters as well so I didn't feel the need to use a strong tank.

I also used heavy magic and ranged attacks. I didn't go for monsters with healing abilities as I had no dedicated tank and the ruleset was restrictive.

Round 1

My opponent went with a heavy ranged attack and had some similar cards that I used in this battle.

They used the Imperial Knight as their tank but placed the Gargoya Scrapper in the front just like me. Both of those got easily eliminated in the first round.

Round 2

The damage from Earthquake took down poor Lensmaster at the start of the round while lowering other non-flying monsters' health as well.

We saw the demise of a strong Imperial Knight from my opponent's lineup while my Gargoya Devil got eliminated as well. The battle looked even at this point.

Round 3 & 4

The damage from Earthquake got two important units from my opponent's camp and now it was looking much better for me. It was 2 ranged attackers vs 3 heavy attackers. Also, they had no source of healing while my summoner's Triage ability constantly healing units after each round.

Poor War Pegasus was left all alone at the front of the lineup unable to attack and was an easy target for my units. With this last unit getting annihilated off the battlefield I registered an easy win at the end.

Conclusion

Djinn Renova is a powerful mage who comes with a very useful Strengthen ability that helps with any ruleset or against any type of attack.

For some, it may be considered a little pricey costing 7 mana but its stats justifies this cost easily. I am satisfied with the outcome it can get, maybe because I am biased towards magic attackers. In any case, this is something everyone should try and build more strategies with. Let me know if you like this unit.
