This week's battle mage secrets focuses on the Ferocity Ruleset.

In the splinterlands Ferocity ruleset, every monster gains the Fury ability. With Fury's ability activated, all monsters can unleash double damage against opponents equipped with the Taunt ability. In this ruleset deploying Taunt ability monsters becomes a risky gamble (Yes, I am looking at everyone who loves to auto-deploy Iziar in battles) as they become vulnerable to the increased damage. Instead, prioritizing monsters with other traditional tanking abilities becomes important e.g., Shield, Void Armor etc.

The one challenge about featuring a battle about the ruleset is finding a battle where someone plays a Taunt monster in the Ferocity ruleset battle. I could not locate one where someone decided to put themselves at a disadvantage. Anyways, in this battle featuring the Ferocity ruleset, no one put themselves at a disadvantage by playing a Taunt monster. The battle was a war of the Sneak and Opportunity monsters all attacking from the backline. The battle's momentum swung a few times and at one time, I thought I had enough to clinch victory, but in the end, the opposition just had too much melee hitting power -- 20 melee damage vs my 16 melee damage.

Do You Like the Ferocity Ruleset? Why or Why Not?

Personally, I find the Ferocity ruleset a good challenge as it requires you not to rely on the Taunt monsters (e.g., Shieldbearer and Iziar), which is fine as I have many monsters with tanking abilities. For those that rely on Taunt monsters, your mileage may vary and will require you to consider alternative monsters. One thing that may be interesting about the Ferocity ruleset is the interplay between Ferocity and other rulesets, such as Stampede or Heavy Hitters.
