The term *shadow work is born for the first time by the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung, having the aspects of our personality or Self that we reject or repress defined as shadows. In where it is explained to us that beyond looking for a way to eliminate them from ourselves, we must learn to integrate them, since we will inevitably also be shadows on some occasions.

For some months now I have been studying and practicing the whole process of working with shadows on my own, although I would like to warn beforehand that it is a very strong and intense process, since we are facing things that at some point may have been dormant.

This concept was evidently adopted by psychiatry and psychology at the time, and doing it with the company of someone who can help or guide you is an excellent option. However, we also understand that shadow work is closely linked to the spiritual growth of people and the expansion of consciousness itself.

But in the end, how do we identify that we should work our shadows? It is simpler than it seems, we simply must study ourselves constantly to be able to identify those things that ''are wrong'' in us. And I quote in quotation marks. Within the work of shadows we will also find traumas, that is why it is important to do the work accompanied by a mental health professional, as it is very likely that the process tends to become very intense.

I like to think of it as if it were a journey, in the end, we will get to know and identify new areas in ourselves, most of which will surprise us. First we must look at them from a more human point of view, understanding that judging is not an option on the list of things to do. Once we have identified that shadow, we simply have to interact with it, to know its origin, understand it, heal it and integrate it.

I would like to clarify that the term integrate refers to heal, accept but does not refer exclusively to that we will become what we are working on. That is, if your biggest shadow work is intolerance towards people, working and integrating it does not mean that you will become an intolerant person for the rest of your life.

This will take time, perhaps we will always be working on new shadows. Something I learned from the process of spiritual growth is that the storm is part of the inner expansion. If we work on loving ourselves completely, on accepting our humanity and our shadows, we achieve an important inner balance. At the end of the day, all these things are us and are part of us, and reaching the frequency of love is what allows us to travel other paths brimming with light.

Always remembering that the antithesis of light is shadow.
