Thanos Sculpture (Sculpture#3) / Escultura de Thanos (Escultura #3)

(The English version is below)

*****English version*****

I came to this community while looking for a place to post my sculptures. I had already posted another sculpture here on HIVE, but I had done it for a @discovery-it contest, so I hadn't researched other types of communities geared towards this theme.

You can see the first sculpture I published in HIVE by following this link:
@gaboamc2393/por-que-me-gusta-discovery-it-mi-escultura-because-i-like-discovery-it-my-sculpture

Seeing that HiveDiy was an appropriate community for my work, I decided to post here the last figure I had made, an old man reading a newspaper.

You can see this figure by following this link:

While I was making the above mentioned post, I found out about the "Moldable world contest", the first contest of this wonderful community, as I read. It sounded perfect to me and I knew I had to participate, even @equipodelta invited me to do so.

You can read more about the contest by following this link:

With this in mind, I got down to work and began to devise my entry for the contest. I had been planning on making this figure for a while now, so it seemed perfect to submit it for this contest. With all that said, I present to you then my Thanos sculpt....

This sculpture is a representation of Thanos, so it is not exactly the same as the versions of the character, whether in movies, series or comics; although I did look quite closely at the movie version to make this sculpture.

Materials used:

  • Plasticine
  • Wire
  • Paper
  • Adhesive tape

If I miss any materials, I will mention them throughout the publication. Having said all this, let's begin.

The first thing to do for the modeling of this type of sculptures, is the skeleton. Plasticine is a very weak material, so you have to make a skeleton for the figure to keep its shape. However, for this particular case I started with the head, since it seemed a bit complicated to make the face; even so, I achieved a decent result, as shown in the image below:

I must confess that during the molding of the face I concentrated so much that I forgot to take pictures of a part of the process, that's why there is a jump of steps between image 5 and 6, being that in this last one you can see the head of the sculpture fixed on the wire skeleton. That said, let's continue...

In the image you have just seen, you can clearly distinguish the materials used for the skeleton, wire, paper and adhesive tape. The paper is used to fill the skeleton, as if it were muscle; the adhesive tape is used to keep the paper fixed, to cover it later with the plasticine. That is the next step, to start covering the skeleton with plasticine; I started with the lower part:

In the image you can see how I covered with brown color, and then molded until the desired shape was achieved. I helped myself with a toothpick to continue molding and shaping the folds of the pants, as shown in the following image:

After finishing with the figure's pants, I started working on the boots:

Here I had to mix orange, brown and yellow plasticine to obtain a color similar to gold, which I used for the boots and other accessories. I helped myself with a toothpick and a modeling tool to shape the boot. One boot first and one later:

Next was the knee pads. These I made with "golden" and dark blue plasticine (just mix blue with a little black). The result is as shown in the following image:

Once the lower part of the figure was finished, I continued with the upper part. For this I covered the torso with dark blue plasticine and molded it to the desired shape:

In this part I paused in the torso and concentrated on the arms, since I covered the torso with blue plasticine only to define the shape that the figure would have. Once this was done, I first covered the left arm with purple plasticine and then I molded it until the desired shape was achieved, as shown in the following image:

With a needle I made the details of the left arm (22), then I continued with the right arm (23) and molded until the desired shape was achieved (24 and 25):

To make the hand of the right arm I simply placed a small ball of plasticine on the forearm and flattened it (26), then I placed each finger one by one, helping me with a needle to smooth the joint between the hand and each finger (27).

As many will remember, Thanos has a glove on his left hand, so after finishing the right hand, it was time to make the glove. The first thing I did for this was to make a sort of stump on the forearm (28), on this I placed the body of the glove (29), using a needle to make the smallest details (29 and 30). Finally, I placed what would be the hand without its fingers (31).

To make this glove you have to be patient, that's the key. If you don't believe me, look at the following steps: place the thumb and a cover on top of the hand we had placed before (32); make a hole for each finger in that cover (33); model the index finger, make the details with a needle and place it in the corresponding place(34), model the middle finger, make the details with a needle and place it in the corresponding place(35), model the ring finger, make the details with a needle and place it in the corresponding place(36), model the little finger, make the details with a needle and place it in the corresponding place(37). This does not end here...

With a needle I made the details on the cover of the glove, placed holes for the six gems (38) and placed each gem in its respective place (39).

A parenthesis here, my cousin wanted to help me make the gems, so there she is, making the little gems that I would later place on Thanos' gauntlet:

We continue. Once our glove is ready, we return to the chest. I helped myself with a needle to shape all the folds of the clothes until I got the desired result. I also used a strip of gold and brown plasticine to make a belt. Later I would fix it in more detail, it was just to have a reference of where the belt would be.

Use more gold plasticine for the chest plate (41) and brown plasticine for shoulder plates (42).

I used the same brown plasticine for the back details (43) and gold plasticine for the back plates (44). Finally I used a needle to shape the folds of the clothes (45).

At this point the figure is already in the shape of Thanos, as shown in the image below. Here I skipped some steps because I didn't take pictures, but practically what I did was to finish the belt, place a couple of folds with blue plasticine and a few pieces of "fabric" that hangs from the blue part of Thanos' uniform.

In the front area I finished details of the gold plate and torso.

Finally I fixed the belt and made details on the shoes with a needle. I also shaped the green base of the figure into grass.

And this is how my Thanos sculpture is finished. I leave you with the photos I took from different angles.

Well, I hope you liked the sculpture, as the intention was to submit something of quality for the contest. Thanks to the HiveDiy community for the opportunity to participate in this wonderful contest and for the good reception. If you would like to leave your opinions, feel free to do so in the comments, I will be happy to read them. With nothing more to add, I'll say goodbye then....

See you next time!
