Eine solche Handysocke hatte ich schon länger "auf meiner Tapetenrolle". Das Double Knitting würde das Handy durch das dickere Gewebe sicher halten und gleichzeitig Muster oder Motive möglich machen. Ich habe 6fach Sockengarn verwendet, die diese "Socke" noch dicker macht :)
Making such a "sock" was a project I thought about every now and then. The double-knitting with its increased thickness would keep phone safe while making patterns or motives possible. I used sports weight yarn, which makes this 'sock' even more squishy :)
Bei dieser Challenge musste ich sofort an solch ein Projekt denken. Das erste Problem war das Symbol ♀ - es war schwierig, es in der richtigen "Auflösung" zu finden (eine Seite ist 36 Maschen breit). Also habe ich ein größeres ♀ umgewandelt, aber ich bin mit den Proportionen nicht zufrieden: Maschen sind höher als breit und das verzieht das gestrickte Motiv ein wenig. Auf die Rückseite habe ich einfache Motive gelegt - Farbwechsel machen Double Knitting stabiler.
So I decided to try and knit such a sock for this challenge. First problem was the symbol ♀- it was difficult to find it in the right "resolution" (a side is 36 stitches wide). So I converted a bigger sized ♀, but I'm not happy with the proportions: knit stitches are higher than wide and that warps the knitted motive a bit. On the backside I put simple motives - colour changes make double knitting stronger.
Das nächste Problem war der Abschluss: Ich wollte ein Rippenbündchen, hatte das aber noch nie gemacht beim Double Knitting und fand keine Projekte zum "Abgucken". Ich fand einen Blog, in dem verschiedene Arten von Rippenmuster für Double Knitting gezeigt wurden und entschied mich für eine, die ich verwenden wollte. Es ist eine ganz andere Art des Double Knittings, ich würde nicht dazu raten, es zu machen, wenn man die Technik ansonsten nicht sicher beherrscht.
The next problem was the end: I wanted a cuff with ribbing, but had never before made that and didn't really find similar projects. I found a blog where different kinds of ribbing in double knitting were shown and decided on one I wanted to use. It's a totally different kind of double knitting, I won't advise to do it unless you're secure with your double knitting.
Das Ende wurde im Maschenstich vernäht - den ich nicht ausstehen kann, aber er ist vielseitig und die einzige Naht, die das Rippenmuster genug unterstützt, um das Handy sicher in der "Socke" zu halten. Ich bin recht zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis - die Hülle bietet eine dicke Knautschzone.
The end was done with Kitchener stitches - which I hate, but they are versatile and the only bind off which supported the ribbing enough to keep the mobile safe in the 'sock'. I'm quite happy with the result - the cover offers a thick crumple zone.
