4 formas de tejer cabezas esféricas de amigurumis / 4 ways to knit amigurumis spherical heads

¡Hola, espero la estén pasando muy bien!
Hi, I hope you are having a great time!

There are days when you have to keep experimenting and today is one of those days. Knitting amigurumi heads can be simple or complex, it depends on the type of head we want to obtain. If we go to the classic sphere, the common thing to do is to knit 6bp in a magic ring. For this experiment I knit 7pb in a magic ring.

Vayamos al plano 2D / Let's go to the 2D plane

After the 7sc magic ring, in Rnd 2 knit increases, Rnd 3 followed by 1sc and 1 increase, 2sc and 1 increase...so each round until the desired size is obtained. The result is a heptagonal piece. The first two fabrics (left) were knitted following this sequence. While for the other two (right) I made a variation. The result is a circular piece.

Rnd 2: (aum) x 7 ……………………............... (14)
Rnd 3: (1pb + 1aum) x 7 ……………………..... (21)
Rnd 4: 1pb + 1aum + (2pb + 1aum) x 6 + 1pb ..... (28)
Rnd 5: (3pb + 1aum) x 7 … (35)
Rnd 6: 2pb + 1aum + (4pb + 1aum) x 6 + 2pb… (28)

The variation I made was the "sandwich" weave.
Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring and weave in 7 sc.
Rnd 2: (inc) x 7 ...................................... (14)
Rnd 3: (1sc + 1inc) x 7 ............................ (21)
Rnd 4: 1sc + 1inc + (2sc + 1inc) x 6 + 1sc...... (28)
Rnd 5: (3sc + 1inc) x 7 ............................ (35)
Rnd 6: 2sc + 1inc + (4pt + 1inc) x 6 + 2sc... (28)

I made this change so that the fabric would not be so flat when filling the head and would take an oval shape, that was my hypothesis. In addition, you can see that the heads on the right side are more oval (intercalated fabric) than the left side (classic fabric).

Apparently all heads look the same. Even number 2 looks more oval. Slight differences are noticeable in the picture. The heads with intercalated tissue at the top (No. 3 and 4) are slightly taller than the classic heads (1 and 2). Physically the difference is noticeable. However, the way of filling with silicone nappa and the yarns also had an influence. Although they are of the same brand and thickness, they are from different suppliers. And some were found to be more stretched and less firm than others.

Maybe these differences between the flattened (classic) and oval (intercalated) heads go unnoticed, but for me it is important to be clear about it in order to make variations. Personally, when I weave the heads I use type 4 and a mix between 2 and 3. It depends on the shape of the head of the person or character I know.

¡Y eso es todo!

¡…Hasta la próxima!
See you next time!

Dato curioso: Si quieren realizar un cambio más drástico ya seria aumentarle o disminuirle el número de vueltas rectas de la cabeza / If they want to make a more drastic change it would be to increase or decrease the number of straight turns of the head.
