Happy Weekend Hive Lovers, I Hope everyone is well and having a great weekend. I was tidying up the garden and mowing the weeds in my garden, suddenly some beautiful needle dragonflies / damselfly approached me, I immediately took some pictures of beautiful needle dragonflies / damselfly, where did these dragonflies/damselfly come from? I asked myself.
Needle Dragonfly/Damselfly Characteristics
The needle dragonfly/Damselfly has special characteristics that distinguish it from other dragonflies, the needle dragonfly/Damselfly has a thin body shape like a needle so it is called a needle dragonfly, the color of the body is diverse and very striking, different from the dragonflies that we usually see
The needle dragonfly's/Damselfly wings are always in an upright position together on its back when it is resting or perched somewhere.
Based on sources from https://id.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capung_jarum, the needle dragonfly/damselfly is a type of insect belonging to the order Odonata, has a life cycle that starts from the egg then after 2 days the eggs hatch into larvae, the larvae will leave their shells and larvae grow into nymphs, nymphs eventually grow into adult needleflies.
Habitat Needle dragonflies/Damselfly are usually found along watercourses, in gardens, rice fields, meadows and yards. Needle dragonflies/damselfly are often found in clean and unpolluted water sources.
Adult needle dragonflies/Damselfly hunt their prey in the air, namely small insects such as moths, ants and other small animals, as seen in the following photos, the needle dragonfly is eating an ant and a moth.
Based on sources from https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mongabay.co.id/2018/09/29/kisah-unik-si-capung-jarum/ The adult male damselfly will defend its territory with open wings and displaying the beautiful colors of their wings, the mating process begins with the male damselfly flying in front of the female damselfly, while flapping his beautiful wings, then the male and female damselfly will fuse and fly together in a position like a "wheel",male damselfly will remain attached to the female body when laying eggs, eggs are usually laid on plants and tree trunks that are near water sources.
The increasing number of human beings will definitely result in reduced vacant land which causes many animal habitats to be threatened, such as the needle dragonfly /damselfly whose existence is getting less and less, we can see this for ourselves, when we were small, usually we will find dragonflies with a variety of beautiful colors. in the yard and around our house flying non-stop, but now we can not freely enjoy the beauty of the wings of the needle dragonfly / damselfly
so that our future generations can still enjoy the beautiful flapping of the needle dragonfly's/damselfly wings, then we can provide artificial habitat for them, we don't have to garden in acres of fields to enjoy the beautiful flap of the needle dragonfly's/damselfly wings, we can plant the plants we like in pots or polybag so that the needle dragonfly/damselfly can perch happily among our plants, as seen in the following photos, several needle dragonflieslanded on the leaves of the ginger plant that I planted using polybags
let's preserve nature which has provided many benefits for humans
