Anartia jatrophae is the scientific name of this beautiful butterfly:
Anartia jatrophae es el nombre científico de esta hermosa mariposa:
Its wings have beautiful figures that adorn them and, due to the eyespots on them, which resemble those present on the feathers of the Peacock, it is also knowns as White Peacock Butterfly.
This beautiful butterfly is distributed territorially in most of South America reaching Bolivia and Argentina, in Central America, in the Caribbean islands and, south of the United States.
It comes to my garden mostly on sunny mornings, perching on branches and flowers to bask in the sun.
Sus alas tienen hermosas figuras que las adornan y, debido a las manchas oculares en ellas, que se asemejan a las presentes en las plumas del Pavo Real, también se la conoce como Mariposa Pavo Real Blanca.
Esta hermosa mariposa se distribuye territorialmente en la mayor parte de Sudamérica llegando a Bolivia y Argentina, en Centroamérica, en las islas del Caribe y, al sur de los Estados Unidos.
Viene a mi jardín principalmente en las mañanas soleadas, posándose en ramas y flores para tomar el sol.

Those who study these beautiful insects (entomologist/lepidopterists) affirm that when the temperature rises during the afternoon, they rest in shady places or perch with their wings erect under the sunlight.

Su vuelo es muy veloz e impredecible, por lo que tuve mucha paciencia para poder fotografiarla, ya que al acercarme a ella levantaba el vuelo y se alejaba.
Los estudiosos de estos bellos insectos (entomólogo/ lepidopterista), afirman que cuando la temperatura aumenta durante la tarde estos descansan en lugares en la sombra o se posan con las alas erguidas bajo la luz del sol.
Cuando el sol empieza a ocultarse, la mariposa Pavo Real busca los últimos rayos posándose en la parte superior de los pastos.

Its wings are pearl white with light brown edges followed by a double row of brown half-moons lighter than the edge, which measures 5 to 7 centimeters when they are fully extended (wingspan).
The forewings have one black circle and the hind wings have two black circles slightly smaller ones.
Its study has revealed that the females are larger than the males and that in winter they become larger and paler while in summer they are smaller and darker.
It has also been observed that when this butterfly first emerges from the chrysalis, the colors of its wings have a very beautiful pearly luminescence that fades over time to a faint white.
Sus alas son de color blanco perla con los bordes de color marrón claro seguido de una doble fila de semilunas marrones más claras que el borde, las cuales miden de 5 a 7 centímetros cuando están completamente extendidas (envergadura).
Las alas delanteras tienen un circulo de color negro y las traseras tienen dos un poco más pequeños.
Su estudio ha revelado que las hembras son más grandes que los machos y que en invierno se tornan más grandes y pálidas mientras que en verano son más pequeñas y oscuras.
También se ha observado que cuando esta mariposa recién emerge de la crisálida, los colores de sus alas tienen una luminiscencia nacarada muy hermosa la cual se desvanece al pasar el tiempo y se torna en un blanco mate.

According to the studies did, the white peacock butterfly undergoes a complete metamorphosis, that is, it goes through the stages of egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult.
The eggs are light green in color and are deposited by the female individually on the leaves of the host plants of this species: Bacopa monnieri, Lippia, and Phyla nodiflora.
De acuerdo a los estudios realizados, la mariposa Pavo Real blanca presenta una metamorfosis completa, es decir, que pasa por las fases de huevo, larva, pupa e imago o adulto.
Los huevos son de color verde claro y son depositados por la hembra individualmente en las hojas de las plantas hospedera de esta especie: Bacopa monnieri, Lippia y Phyla nodiflora.

The caterpillars will hatch 3 to 10 days after the eggs are laid. They are black with small white spots and numerous black spines arranged linearly. They feed on the leaves of host plants and are sometimes very abundant, defoliating much of the plant on which they live.
In the next stage, the caterpillar forms into a green and brown cocoon with green dots on the dorsal area.
Finally, completing the metamorphosis process, the butterfly emerges as an adult, which will feed on the nectar of the flowers and perform a pollinating function of the vegetation.
The White Peacock Butterfly has a life span of 1 to 4 months and this will depend on the natural conditions that surround it, the availability of its food, and the presence of its natural predators (birds, frogs, ants, spiders, etc.).
Las orugas eclosionan de 3 a 10 días después de la puesta de los huevos. Son de color negro con pequeñas manchas blancas y numerosas espinas negras dispuestas linealmente. Se alimentan de las hojas de las plantas hospedadoras y, a veces, son muy abundantes, defoliando gran parte de la planta en la que viven.
En la siguiente etapa, la oruga se forma en un capullo verde y marrón con puntos verdes en el área dorsal.
Finalmente, completando el proceso de metamorfosis, la mariposa emerge como adulta, que se alimentará del néctar de las flores y realizará una función polinizadora de la vegetación.
La Mariposa Pavo Real Blanco tiene una vida útil de 1 a 4 meses y esto dependerá de las condiciones naturales que la rodean, la disponibilidad de su alimento y la presencia de sus depredadores naturales (aves, ranas, hormigas, arañas, etc.).

It has been observed that the males of this species have a behavior of vigilance and protection that is not usual in insects.
They establish a territory of approximately 15 meters around the plant where the female deposits her eggs and protects them from any other insect and even from another male of the same species.
