Este es nuestro destino a relatar, un lugar que queda en la misma capital de Venezuela. Llamado popularmente el Cañón del Guaire, y por otros, El Peñón de las Guacas. La verdad es que en esta zona fue construida la primera hidroeléctrica del país y de Latinoamérica. Posee un valor turístico, histórico y espeleológico respectivo del municipio Hatillo.
This is our destination to report, a place that is in the capital of Venezuela. Popularly called the Guaire Canyon, and by others, El Peñon de las Guacas. The truth is that in this area was built the first hydroelectric plant in the country and Latin America. It has a touristic, historical, and speleological value in the municipality of Hatillo.
Es un lugar al cual muchos senderistas del país acuden para empaparse de historia. Bautizada con el nombre de El Encantado, por su fundador Ricardo Zuloaga, un ingeniero y visionario de su tiempo.
It's a place where many hikers of the country go to soak in history. It was baptized with the name of El Encantado, after its founder Ricardo Zuloaga, an engineer and visionary of his time.
Historia
El Encantado fue inaugurado el 8 de agosto de 1897, luego de dos años de haber iniciado su construcción. Fue escogido por Ricardo Zuloaga debido a las ventajas del lugar. Entre ellas: Su cercanía a la capital, el hecho de pasar justamente por el Ferrocarril Central, lo que solucionaba el traslado de la maquinaria pesada.
El Encantado was inaugurated on August 8, 1897, two years after its construction began. It was chosen by Ricardo Zuloaga due to the advantages of the place. Among them: Its proximity to the capital, the fact of passing right through the Central Railroad, which solved the transfer of heavy machinery.
Debido a la escasa caída de agua del Guaire, hizo los respectivos aforos y nivelaciones para aprovechar el apreciable volumen que contaba el rio. Los inicios de la empresa fueron difíciles, la gente no estaba familiarizada con la electricidad y fue una ardua labor suscribirlos al medio. La primera zona de Caracas en recibir electricidad fue Petare.
Due to the scarce waterfall of the Guaire, the respective gauging and leveling were done to take advantage of the appreciable volume of the river. The beginnings of the company were difficult, the people were not familiar with electricity and it was hard work to get them to subscribe to the medium. The first area of Caracas to receive electricity was Petare.
¿Cómo llegar?
Llegar al Cañón del Guaire se puede hacer por dos caminos. El primero es tomar los autobuses desde Chacaíto o en la terminal de Nuevo Circo con destino al Hatillo. Se quedarán en la última parada en el C.C el Hatillo, de ahí emprender caminando hasta llegar a Lomas de la Lagunita, por ese sendero existe un camino que los llevará a los Caseríos los Naranjos. A partir de ahí la hidroeléctrica son 15 minutos de camino. Pida indicaciones a la gente del lugar, son amables y dispuesta a ayudar.
There are two ways to get to the Guaire Canyon. The first is to take the buses from Chacaíto or at the Nuevo Circo terminal with destination Hatillo. You will stay at the last stop at the C.C. El Hatillo, from there you will walk until you reach Lomas de la Lagunita, along this path, there is a road that will take you to Caseríos Los Naranjos. From there it is a 15-minute walk to the hydroelectric plant. Ask for directions from the local people, they are friendly and willing to help.
El otro sendero parte de la California, y los deja relativamente cerca de las residencias El Encantado. Ahí existe un sendero que los llevará primero al Mirador y finalmente a los caseríos.
The other trail starts in California and leaves you relatively close to the El Encantado residences. There is a trail that will take you first to the Mirador and finally to the hamlets.
Experiencia
Caminamos bastante desde el Hatillo al cañón, son como unos 12 o 13 km de camino. La pasamos genial pese a la distancia, aunque sabíamos el camino, permitimos que nos guiará una niña local por el sitio. Volvió la aventura más amena.
We hiked quite a bit from El Hatillo to the canyon, about 12 or 13 km of trail. We had a great time despite the distance, even though we knew the way, we allowed a local girl to guide us through the site. She made the adventure more enjoyable.
Conocimos supuestamente un manantial llamado Agua Caliente, que hipotéticamente es digerible, cosa que no intentamos, pese a la claridad del agua. Deambulamos por el lugar hasta reconocer el techo que conecta hacia las dos cuevas de la zona, pero no fuimos hacia allá debido a la hora. Y regresamos por un nuevo camino abierto por los lugareños hasta los caseríos.
We supposedly met a spring called Agua Caliente, which is hypothetically digestible, which we did not try, despite the clarity of the water. We wandered around the place until we recognized the roof that connects to the two caves in the area, but we did not go there because of the time. And we returned by a new road opened by the locals to the hamlets.
Atractivos turísticos
En el cañón hay diversos lugares que visitar. Principalmente las adyacencias de la hidroeléctrica, caminar por el canal que nos lleva al cañón, visitar las dos cuevas llamadas Zuloaga y Carracos. Además, se puede practicar la escalada, sumando puntos a la hora de visitar el área.
In the canyon, there are several places to visit. Mainly the vicinity of the hydroelectric plant, walk along the canal that leads to the canyon, visit the two caves called Zuloaga and Carrasco's. In addition, you can practice climbing, adding points when visiting the area.
