A couple of months ago red wasps also known as red paper wasps (Polistes canadensis) began to arrive at my house attracted by the fruits that we placed for the birds, so progressively the presence of these insects became more noticeable, even at some point it was like we were placing fruits for the wasps and not for the birds.
Hace un par de meses empezaron a llegar a mi casa avispas rojas, también conocidas como avispa de papel roja o avispa colorada (Polistes canadensis), atraídas por las frutas que colocamos a las aves, por lo que cada vez la presencia de estos insectos se hizo más notable, incluso llegó un punto en que parecía que colocábamos frutas para las avispas y no para las aves.
It seems that these wasps realized that they were in front of an inexhaustible source of food and water, thus they decided to build a comb right there.
Tal parece que estas avispas se dieron cuenta que estaban ante una fuente inagotable de alimento y agua, y no pasó mucho tiempo para que decidieran construir un panal allí mismo.
The construction was done in a short period of time, because when we noticed it, its size was already considerably large. Of course in my family we respect animal life and nature, and as they are harmless we decided to let them and observe them.
La construcción la realizaron en un corto lapso de tiempo, pues cuando lo notamos su tamaño ya era considerablemente grande. Por supuesto en mi familia respetamos la vida animal, y como son inofensivas decidimos dejarlas y observarlas.
Through observation I have been able to discover some things that possibly I had never questioned, such as their reproduction process, inside each cell it is possible to observe the eggs, as well as the larvae in their different stages of growth, the way they feed them and at the same time they keep them wet, which explains why they make multiple flights to the container with water for the birds. Apparently when the larvae reach their most growing stage, the wasps close the cell with a white membrane to await the transformation from larvae to wasp. So far I have not been able to see a wasp emerging from its cell but there is evidence that several have already emerged.

Hasta ahora no he podido ver una avispa saliendo de su celda pero si hay evidencia de que ya han salido varias.
As for the behavior of these wasps, I have been able to observe how they defend their comb from other insects and anything that approaches, when I approach to look or place the phone to take pictures all of them are placed in a defensive position, with the front legs and head raised towards what is threatening to them. In addition, I have been able to observe a kind of dance that they all do at the same time, they vibrate, moving their tails and their wings and they move with sudden and choppy movements, it is a sequence of vibration - displacement - vibration - displacement and they make a very particular noise with their wings, so it seems that they are dancing.
En cuanto al comportamiento de estas avispas, he podido observar como defienden su panal de otros insectos y de cualquier cosa que se acerque, cuando me acerco a mirar o coloco el teléfono para tomar las fotografías todos ellas se colocan en posición de defensa, con las patas delanteras y la cabeza levantadas hacia lo que les resulta amenazador. Something that intrigues me but that I will have time to research on the internet is how they carry out the construction of the comb and what it is made of, because the comb has become much larger and I have not noticed that they work on its enlargement.
Algo que me intriga pero que ya tendré tiempo de investigar por internet es como llevan a cabo la construcción del panal y de qué está hecho, pues el panal se ha vuelto mucho más grande y no he notado que trabajen en su ampliación.
Undoubtedly, these wasps have been fascinating to me, thanks to the fact that they built their comb in my house I have been able to discover how magnificent they are, I have even become fond of them, and whenever I see these wasps in other places I will see them in a different way.
