Esta semana que fui al mercado flipé a encontrar esta hermosura que destacaba entre las plantas comestibles que usamos al condimentar nuestros alimentos. En Venezuela usamos mucho el cebollín o cebolla en rama para aderezar nuestras comidas y por primera vez en mi vida pude observar que tenían la inflorescencia.
This week when I went to the market I was amazed to find this beautiful plant that stood out among the edible plants that we use to season our food. In Venezuela we use a lot of chives to season our food and for the first time in my life I was able to observe that they had the inflorescence.
Blanca, elegante, aromática adornaba de manera vistosa la rudimentaria zona donde se estaba vendiendo. Tomé varios ejemplares pues definitivamente eran candidatos a fotografiar y tomar buenas fotografías. Adornaron mi cocina hasta que sencillamente degeneraron.
White, elegant, aromatic, it adorned the rudimentary area where it was being sold in a showy way. I took several specimens as they were definitely candidates for photographing and taking good pictures. They adorned my kitchen until they simply degenerated.
Sus estambres me llamaban realmente la atención, y son visibles en algunas fotografías. En el Género Allium encontramos al grupo de cebollas y ajos, con un olor bastante característico que se usa a nivel ornamental y culinario. Se trata de plantas superiores que han adaptado una mejor reproducción que asegura aún más la perpetuación.
Their stamens really caught my eye, and are visible in some photographs. In the genus Allium we find the group of onions and garlic, with a rather characteristic smell that is used for ornamental and culinary purposes. They are superior plants that have adapted a better reproduction that ensures even better perpetuation.
Crecen formando bulbos, de los cuales se desarrollan largas ramas en cuyo extremo crece su inflorescencia, una umbela, en este caso con flores blancas. A nivel químico producen, la formación de elementos como los sulfuros y el sulfóxido de alilo, sustancias precursoras de la aliina, responsable de su aroma.
They grow forming bulbs, from which long branches develop, at the end of which grows their inflorescence, an umbel, in this case with white flowers. On a chemical level, they produce the formation of elements such as sulphides and allyl sulphoxide, precursor substances of alliin, which is responsible for their aroma.
A nivel taxonómico se habla de una Magnoliophyta, de clase Liliopsida, es decir que mantiene un solo cotiledón. Sus nervaduras son paralelinervias a nivel del tallo. La familia es Amaryllidaceae, pues su crecimiento en bulbos y sus flores trímeras así lo expresan. El género es Allium y las especies son bastantes variadas.
Taxonomically, it is a Magnoliophyta, of the class Liliopsida, i.e. it has only one cotyledon. Its veins are parallel to the veins of the stem. The family is Amaryllidaceae, as its bulbous growth and tri-merous flowers express this. The genus is Allium and the species are quite varied.

Con respecto a la flor, tal como lo mencioné anteriormente, se trata de una inflorescencia (agrupamiento de varias flores) del tipo Umbella, son de color blancos, trímeras a nivel de la corola y sus accesorios florales. Poseen seis estambres y como pude determinar un ovario supero, con estigma nudoso. Esta es una umbela con numerosas flores pequeñas, de colores variables de blanco, pasando por amarillo y rosado, a azules, con seis estambres dispuestos en dos verticilos de tres, y con un ovario súpero, de estigma nudoso.
Regarding the flower, as I mentioned before, it is an inflorescence (grouping of several flowers) of the Umbella type, they are white, tri-merous at the level of the corolla and its floral accessories. They have six stamens and, as I could determine, a superovary, with a knotty stigma. This is an umbel with numerous small flowers, varying in colour from white, through yellow and pink, to blue, with six stamens arranged in two whorls of three, and with a superovary, with a knobbly stigma.
El tiempo ha determinado que pueden utilizarse a nivel ornamental, medicinal y culinario y esto ratifica el poder que mantienen las plantas en nuestros días.
Time has determined that they can be used for ornamental, medicinal and culinary purposes and this ratifies the power that plants maintain in our days.
