The Castle

Sitting at the top of the Fluted Wall in Capital Reef National Park in southern Utah is The Castle.

It is probably the oldest castle you'll see. It is made of Wingate Standstone in the Late Triassic period making it 200 million years old!

I took this picture in late April 2021 at sunset. While Wingate standstone is pale orange to red in color this shot with the setting sun makes the castle look extra red. The cliffs reach a height of 825 feet.

It would be cool to hike around it next time and see the hoodoos and hidden canyon. The hike is 2.4 miles round trip and an elevation gain of only 200 feet.
