My girlfriend is playing Live Local Original Music!!

Such excitement as @clairemobey takes the stage on Monday night!

It sounds interesting and fresh when I say "girlfriend" but truly, she is my partner, my soulmate and she's been a bit busy getting ready for this gig and thus, no time to make posts.

I have however, made Claire a 50% beneficiary to this post!

Claire and I have been together for just over 2 years now, been living in the same house with our 3 kids for 3 months and the journey has been one filled with love, kindness, growth, passion, fear, joy, and the realization that you have found the person you were MEANT to be with all along!

In that time, Claire stood up out of the dust and ashes of everything that prevented her from stiving towards her dream of doing music. I did not DO those things. She did them herself.

Yes. I helped create an environment where my spouse can feel like she can venture a step forward. It is not easy! It is FULL of doubt and hard work.

It seems unreal but it was the 8th day of me knowing Claire that she first shared with me Embalm which was the last thing that she did with her music before life threw her all the curve balls.

What matters most is that she rose up from there and is back on track, doing what she loves doing!

With songs like Mother of Glory and A Song of Hope she has BROKEN her dry spell. They sound amazing and if they are relevant to you, I am sorry to say but they will make you cry!

Claire sings out of her heart and it shows!

Now for the next step...

Here she is:

There is the event, taking stage along with other professional musicians.

I am so very proud of her!

Claire has now release music using all the official channels that would mean that if it were played anywhere, she would get the royalties for it! @clairemobey could probably do a better job of explaining all of that to you.

Here is the description from that link about Claire's introduction:

Claire Mobey is a vocalist and songwriter from Cape Town, who composed and performed her own music in her early teens. Claire took a long break from her musical dreams, but through collaboration and with the support of musicians like Jasper, she has picked up her mic again and is composing and performing once again, with several songs set for official release this year.

So who else will be there? Check them out below!

Jasper Dick

Taking the stage beside @clairemobey will be Jasper Dick: https://www.reverbnation.com/jasperdick. We visited him at his home on Sunday to reherse their performance.

From the link above:

Jasper Dick used to be a Barleycorn Committee member. He enjoys writing songs in a variety of genres and themes. Jasper works for a renewable energy company by day, and recently became a dad to a beautiful baby daughter for the first time, so it's always a treat for him to be able to pick up the guitar and dust off the rust!

Emma-Jean

Found here!

Emma-Jean is an indie folk singer-songwriter from the ‘deep south’ – as she often likes to tell her audience when introducing a song, specifically about this area.
With a fascination for the guitar, the then 11-year-old picked up the instrument and has not put it down since. Her love for songwriting coincides with her interest in perspective, emotion and expression.
In 2015 and 2019 she placed part of the top ten in the Barleycorn’s Annual Songwriters’ Competition, placing third in 2016. 2016 was the same year she won Hectic Nine 9’s ‘Shine Nine 9’ competition, which aired on SABC2.
In August 2019, the 'deep south' musician won the competition "Cape Town Unwired", as part of the solo artists category.
In March 2020, Emma-Jean released her first single “From the South”, which can be found on various streaming platforms. You can find video clips, gig updates and more on her Instagram page @thisisemmajean and Facebook page @thisisemmajean.

#Jamie Jupiter

Jamie seems to have been in the industry a long time and clearly enjoys what he does. It is not difficult to find recordings of performances of him playing on stage at the Barleycorn.

Jamie Jupiter first hit South African stages as a harmonica player in the early 90's, jamming with many bands, particularly in the bohemian Observatory scene in Cape Town. Always a keen wordsmith, his desire to put his quirky poems to chords came into fruition after eight guitar lessons with local jazz maestro Dave Ledbetter. No sooner had he scraped together his own set, he was whisked off as guitar player for legendary glam- art band, The Honeymoon Suites! He has since performed with an array of top class artists around the world: From a Contemporary Dance show with Vincent Mantsoe, in USA, Canada, Germany and Reunion Islands where he played a range of African Instruments. to a Country cabaret show "Angels on Horseback" who won a Fleur du Cap award for Best Cabaret. He toured Holland and Belgium with SAMA nominated "Korreltjie Kantel" with Luna Paige and Nick Turner. He has also facilitated drum circles with up to 800 participants.
Jamie continues to write and perform his own songs, his last album release "First Team Daydream" was produced by Robin Auld and features some of Cape Towns finest musicians.

I look forward to watching these performances and possibly getting to meet them all!

Claire might be a bit nervous but she has me by her side.

@clairemobey, I love you so much. You go for it and you sing with your heart.
