Greetings everyone it's a pre privilege to be part of this contest and I know someone somewhere would benefit from this.
All women need to know the system in their country as regards the laws that govern them in the case of gender violence.
I have never been a victim but these useful information can help a Victim.

There have been some attempts in various states to provide some legislative framework for protection against gender based violence. I know a little about lagos state Nigeria because I live in lagos state.

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has laws on Sexual, Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

WHAT IS GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

Gender-based violence refers to any type of harm that is committed against a person or group of people because of their actual or recognized sex, gender, sexual exposure and/or gender identity.

WHAT CAUSES GENDER BASED VIOLENCE?
The unequal status of men and women is the primary cause of gender-based violence. This inequality includes beliefs that women should be economically dependent on men, and that women and children are a man's possessions and under his control.

Other factors which can be causes of violence include:
1.The influence of one's peers.
2.Having a lack of attention or respect.
3.Having low self-worth.
4.Experiencing abuse or neglect.
5.Witnessing violence in the home, community, or medias.
6.Access to weapons.

The Lagos State Government launched a 24/7 helpline to rapidly respond to survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). The virtual system provides uninterrupted access to trained service providers by providing 24/7 through a toll-free helpline 08000333333. On the 27th Mar 2022.

Critical Logistical Steps To Responding To Gender-based Violence

  1. Get the survivor medical attention.
  2. In cases of sexual abuse, demand that a Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) test be administered at the hospital within 72 hours.
  3. Take the survivor to the police station and file a report with as much detail as possible.

Get educated and Use your voice on social media to bring awareness.
