Childhood Recipe Memories.. Ladies of Hive Contest week #50

This prompt took me down memory lane.

In my country, we have just raining and dry season and so talking about Fall isn't something I'm familiar with.
So, I'll be sharing a childhood Recipe.

As a child I didn't do much of cooking as we lived with some of our cousins who took care of us and handled most of the chores till we got of age.

However, there's one recipe I made with my cousins, of same age grade whenever we visited our hometown for the Christmas holiday.. we do a play called "mummy and daddy", this is done in our compound, filled with sand and on the sides, well lawned grass.

We act out characters of our elder siblings or parents, then begin our cooking.

First, we get empty tins of tomatoes or milk, scamper for grass, which we slice. We put water, a bit of sand as the thickener, our sliced leaves and when not being watched, we sneak into the kitchen to get palm oil, salt, pepper and useful ingredients to waste on a "sand meal".

Do we eat it afterwards? Hell no!
Our parents will yell at us, throw that away, don't put it in your mouth, come out from the sand!!

It sort of exposed us to practising "adulting" and we enjoyed those moments.

Do I still do that as an adult? Of course not.

There's however a meal that reminds me of the togetherness I enjoyed with my extended family as a child. We prepared it mostly during the festive season but now, it's a regularly cooked meal.
The food is Fried rice, salad, chicken with lots of drinks.

It is the food of the day and it takes virtually everyone to prepare.
Everyone has a role to play:
Some will dice the veggies.
Some will process the chickens; fill, de-feather, cut in sizes, then another set will steam and fry it.
Some will be in charge of the rice cooking.
Some, will be washing out the used dishes and ensuring the environment is neat and tidy.

We do receive lots of visitors, which in actuality, are no visitors, but our extended family coming from far and near.

The thought of this recipe is a thought of festivity, joy, celebration, love and togetherness.
Sadly, we don't do that no more due to the little foxes that came up to destroy the vine.. all nuclear family to themselves.

This is my entry for the Ladies of Hive Contest week #50.
