During a late night drawing session a few days ago in Apophysis 2.09, I decided to try a new variable combination. Linear, Fan, and Exponential produced the result for an image that looked like it could be the shape of a broken wing. I've created a few wings in the past. This one I was hoping would be different. Instead of the beautiful butterfly versions, I went in the opposite direction. The result was hauntingly beautiful. Perfect in time for the upcoming Halloween scary season. Of course, a story involving the broken wing began to take shape.
"The Skull"
Curiosity has always been my downfall...or strong suit if things work out. So, I didn't think twice about returning the few familiar envelopes to the slot designated for my apartment. I'd deal with them later. The rough-edged, craft envelope, with no return address, caught my attention.
Dead tired and a long day at the office contributed to the full-blown headache that forced its way from behind my eyes as I hurriedly opened the door. Dropping my purse in the hall entry, I continued into the living room while slinging my shoes somewhere I'd have to look for later.
I flipped to the backside. The envelope contained only a delicate gold seal that kept the flap from opening. Curiosity mounting, I quickly tore at the center of the octagon-embossed seal. The invitation inside was even stranger, as I was being invited to the grand opening of the newly-constructed Abstract Art Gallery in Midtown.
I certainly didn't know anyone connected with the Art Gallery. There was no return address, so who sent the invitation? I turned it over for directions. I gasped and couldn't move. I had an urge to let go, but my hands held it steady. Suddenly, my headache ceased as it was no match for what I saw next.
My heart began racing as the sketch, I hurriedly traced with my eyes, resembled something I'd seen before. The picture in my dream just two months ago. What the hell is this! I wondered. The black background glared back.
Compelled to focus on the blood eyes and nose, the image began to move slowly at first inward to the center of the card. It gained momentum until a kaleidoscope began to play. I reeled back and forth. How in the hell can this animation play on a card not designed in that fashion? I thought.
I felt nauseated. I stumbled to the couch and lowered myself down quickly. I turned the invitation front side and laid it next to me. I couldn't think about it now. I had to remember that dream. I had to figure out what it meant and how the two are connected.
I didn't want to remember that dream ever again. But, somehow I couldn't stop. I just couldn't let it go. It replayed everyday until a tension headache usually emerged. But, this was the first time an item from a dream materialized. I picked up the invitation again. This time I noticed several numbers and letters embedded in the center of the design. I had to focus to read the small print underneath them. PRESENT THIS CODE.
Oh My God! I shouted. I flung the invitation to the floor and covered my eyes. It can't be! The number code in my dream. I hadn't told anyone about it.
As the invitation floated to the floor, I followed.
How I created the wing portion of my Fractal Digital Art:
Pulling it all together:
The last stage of my fractal drawing design needed the assistance of another program. I turned to Canva. Utilizing Canva as a design program means I have numerous tools at my disposal, such as resizing, animation, background removal, and filters. The design canvas is perfect for creating collages and image manipulation.
Here's my procedure.
- uploaded my fractal to Canva;
- rotated it 90 deg left to create an upright position;
- changed canvas background color to black;
- duplicated the fractal;
- flipped the second image horizontally and positioned it next to the original to create two sides of the wings;
- added additional, original fractal drawings created by me; and finally
- added my signature.

I uploaded my fractal to the NFT Showroom. It's for sale there in tokenized form in my collection.
