Estoy muy agradecido con todo lo que me ha dado la vida, sobre todo porque me permitió crecer en medio de una familia que siempre estuvo pendiente de proveerme lo necesario, además de brindarme la protección, el apoyo y el amor para seguir adelante. También he podido tener mi propia familia, con mi esposa, mis hijos y mis nietas.
Recuerdo dos personas de mi familia paterna que fueron muy bondadosas en algunos momentos difíciles que pasé durante la infancia.
Una de ellas fue mi abuela paterna. Durante algunos años a mi padre se le dificultó poder tener vivienda propia, siempre estábamos de alquiler en alquiler. Cuando al fin había logrado reunir algún dinero tuvo un accidente que casi lo dejó inválido. Durante un largo tiempo no pudo volver al trabajo, por lo que no quedó otra alternativa sino consumir los ahorros destinados a la casa, así que nos quedamos sin techo donde vivir.
En ese tiempo mi abuela tenía una parte de su casa alquilada, eso le generaba algunos ingresos para ella. Pero al saber lo del accidente inmediatamente pidió desocupación, los inquilinos entendieron la gravedad de la situación y accedieron gustosos.

I am very grateful for everything that life has given me, especially because it allowed me to grow up in the midst of a family that was always attentive to provide me with what I needed, in addition to giving me the protection, support and love to move forward. I have also been able to have my own family, with my wife, my children and my granddaughters.
I remember two people from my paternal family who were very kind in some difficult moments I went through during my childhood.
One of them was my paternal grandmother. For some years my father had a hard time owning his own place, we were always going from rent to rent. When he had finally managed to raise some money, he had an accident that almost left him an invalid. For a long time he was unable to return to work, so there was no alternative but to use up the savings destined for the house, so we were left without a roof over our heads.
At that time my grandmother had a part of her house rented, which generated some income for her. But when she found out about the accident, she immediately asked to vacate, the tenants understood the seriousness of the situation and were happy to agree.
Pasamos varios años viviendo donde la abuela, hasta que mi padre pudo reunir de nuevo para instalarnos en una modesta vivienda. Durante todo el tiempo de la convalecencia de mi padre la abuela se hizo cargo de los gastos de la familia. Para ello pasaba hasta altas horas de la noche haciendo su trabajo de costurera. Nunca le escuché ningún reproche ni ninguna queja por la situación que le habíamos creado al instalarnos en su casa. Fue una mujer muy generosa.
Recuerdo también un tío paterno, era menor que mi papá, y a nosotros, sus sobrinos, siempre nos tuvo un gran cariño. Él vivía en el interior del país y nosotros en la capital, era un hombre muy emprendedor y había logrado consolidar unos buenos negocios. Al llegar las vacaciones escolares mi padre nos montaba a mi hermano de once años y a mí, de doce, en un autobús que nos llevaba hasta la ciudad donde vivía el tío, era un viaje de varias horas. Al llegar siempre nos recibía mi tío con una gran sonrisa, y lo primero que hacía era llevarnos a una gran tienda de un amigo suyo. Allí nos compraba de todo, regresábamos a Caracas con ropa y zapatos para el resto del año. Además, en ese mes y medio que pasábamos con él nos sacaba de paseo a una gran cantidad de sitios. Siempre recuerdo de él su temperamento alegre y la gentileza con que nos trataba.
Pudiera seguir nombrando conocidos, familiares y amigos, que han sido bondadosos y solidarios conmigo. Son muchas las personas a las que les debo algún favor. En todas mis etapas he contado con gente bondadosa a mí alrededor. De alguna forma todos contribuyeron para hacerme lo que soy. La bondad y el amor que he recibido es un gran motivo para sentirme profundamente agradecido con la vida.

Upon arrival we were always greeted by my uncle with a big smile, and the first thing he would do was to take us to a big store owned by a friend of his. There he would buy us everything, and we would return to Caracas with clothes and shoes for the rest of the year. In addition, in the month and a half we spent with him, he would take us on trips to a great number of places. I always remember his cheerful temperament and the kindness with which he treated us.
I could go on naming acquaintances, relatives and friends who have been kind and supportive to me. There are many people to whom I owe a favor. In all my stages I have had kind people around me. In some way they all contributed to make me what I am. The kindness and love I have received is a great reason to feel deeply grateful to life.
