The KKK Were Democrats

Of all the bad arguments made to not vote for Joe Biden in the upcoming elections, this may be the worst. The arguments that it was the Republicans who were in favor of abolishing slavery, and that the Ku Klux Klan originally was an organization of mostly Democrats, are just variations on the many ways in which right-wingers reverse the truth, just another way of saying that the leftists are the real racists and that Antifa are the real fascists...

If you're supporting Trump, or even if you're just a regular Republican, it must be difficult to constantly be reminded by leftists that the conservatives of the Republican Party hold ideals and use rhetoric that appeals to white nationalists, racists and (crypto-) fascists. Their focus on "law and order" has proven to be their way of protecting the order that benefits the upper class that consists primarily of white men, and when that order is threatened they're quick to call resistance to the established hierarchy "anarchy" or "terrorism" even. Them eagerly reminding those who dare oppose their preferred order by voting for the Democrats, that it was in fact the Democratic Party from which the KKK was born, is just another mindless reflex, a compulsive counter-attack by a predator backed into a corner.

Some of them will take this failed strategy so far that they actually deny that the parties flipped during the civil rights movement. They'll brand the Southern Strategy a myth invented to smear Republicans. Sadly, this Southern Strategy was a very real and successful attempt by the Republicans to increase political support among white voters by appealing to racism against African Americans. They can't do this explicitly and in the open anymore, so they'll use coded and suggestive language (dog whistle), mostly relating to economic, social and "law and order" issues. Trump did this recently during his rallies by ensuring that he'll "protect" suburban women by not allowing low-cost housing to ruin their neighborhoods; that's his way of saying that he'll keep poor (and crime-ridden) black families out of their neighborhood.

Donald Trump Walks Out on '60 Minutes' — Full Interview | NowThis

Anyhow, no one wants to be accused of racism or be associated to racist groups or organizations, so it must be hard for voters who support the Republicans and / or Trump to hear that the KKK now endorses the Republican Party, and has done so for decades. When Trump was asked recently, during the disastrous 60 Minute interview, if he could describe his supporters, he reiterated that they want to see law and order, and that they don't want to see law enforcement agents shot on the streets... Not a word on African Americans being killed by the police or treated unfairly by the justice system; that's a dog whistle as well. Trump actually "leaked" the full interview himself with the intent to show how biased the mainstream "liberal" press is against him. Why he ever thought this would make him look good, or make the interviewer look bad, is beyond me; watch the entire thing in the above linked video if you're interested. And watch the below linked video if you're interested in learning about how the parties switched; I can highly recommend it.
