Different types of families - Information for little ones

There are many different types of families. Lets learn more about it

Single-Parent Families
In this family there is only one adult that the kids are staying with. The other parent is not there and there can be many reasons why. They can be divorced, or one of the parents died or maybe the child was born to a single mom that are not married to the dad.

Blended Families or Step Families

If it happens that a single parent with children marries another single parent that also have children, they become a blended family and step brothers and sisters. I can sometimes be very difficult for everybody to get use to this change, especially if they were living alone with their parent for a long time.

Grandparent Families

It can happen that a child stays with his/her grandparents if the parents cannot raise them. I can happen because of death or maybe financial reasons or the parent are not part of the child’s life.

Childless Families

There are many couples that do not have any children. Some of them decide they do not want children and some of them struggle to get pregnant. It does not mean if people do not have children, they are not still a family.

Extended Families

This family can have one or two parents and children but also the grandparents and aunts, uncles and cousins all living together. One big happy family as they say.
It can happen for many reasons like the grandparents are getting older and move in with their children or maybe the mom or dad died and another family member now moves in to help raise the kids. Sometimes it is just because the family want to all live together or it helps financially.

Nuclear Families

This is the traditional family that we know where there are and two adults and one or more kids. This is the family we mostly see in pictures. Mom and dad and children, but there can be different types of nuclear families. Some can have a lot of kids and some only one, some families have parents of the same gender. That means it can me two moms or two dad. Some of the families even have children that they have adopted.
