Gerne auch mit Rum / Gladly also with rum 😎

It seems that I, too, am becoming a victim of climate change.
A great drought is coming and I do not mean a tall, slim woman.
Mid-October and not a drop of rain has fallen from the sky, which according to the weather forecast should also remain so for now.
Instead, 32 degrees Celsius, brutal sunshine, and the fountain, as well as the duck pond, slowly go to the knees, that is, there is hardly any water to water the garden.
Since it means to adapt to the conditions, to reduce the cultivation area and so I began to sow the radishes, carrots, radishes, garlic, and white beets, in-car tires instead of on the wide field.
This has the advantage that you need much less water and also the weeds are easier to master.

This is now three weeks ago and already the first radishes are harvested.
For their own needs, the amount which finds room in such a tire all times, but hoarding stocks falls flat.
No matter, the stuff tastes best fresh anyway.

About the quinces, on the other hand, you do not have to worry, they grow always and everywhere without my intervention and they do not seem to care how the weather is.
Shamefully, I had completely ignored this fruit for years, as I simply had no use for them, until the idea came to me to mash them in and distill schnapps from them.
Besides the Medronho and a raspberry brandy, this was the best spirit that ever flowed from my distillery and enjoyed general popularity.
From then on, I became interested in making other things from this healthy fruit, and specialties like quince jelly, syrup, cake, juice, and a quick dessert came out.

For this compote, besides the fruit, all you need is a little sugar, lemon, and cinnamon.
Wash the fruit, cut into small pieces, simmer in a pot with a little water, add spices and when the pieces are soft remove from heat and let cool, ready.
I mix in a cup of yogurt for a treat, it gives that extra kick.

Was will man mehr, besser als impfen!
😉

The quinces are not only very tasty but also promote health, which was already known in ancient times, and used the fruit as a remedy.
Thanks to the many fiber, tannins, and mucilage, regular consumption has a positive effect on the intestinal flora and digestive system.
Tannic acids and vitamin A are able to provide relief from arteriosclerosis and gout.
The contained pectin lowers the cholesterol level, binds harmful substances, and thus supports the body in the elimination of toxins.
Quince can also be helpful for coughs, burns, constipation, bad breath, sunburn, etc. A true miracle, this little fruit.
The folks at EAT SMARTER list five reasons why this fruit should not be missing from your menu and surprised me with the following claim:
" Ingredients of quince are suspected to help in the prevention of an influenza virus ".
What more could you want, better than vaccinating!😉

Unfortunately, as with all other fruits, quince has to be harvested in a hurry, the way from ripeness to rotting is short, and the problem is that if you want to create stocks, you will be faced with dizzying quantities from one day to the next, which have to be processed quickly.

QUITTEN gammelig.jpg

I'm taking it easy this year, I still have plenty of jars from last year in the pantry.
Just no stress, after all, there is still more to harvest!
Also, the Physalis or also cape gooseberry called, spreads meanwhile by itself on my country and no longer only in the garden.
This specimen suddenly grew at the foot of our swimming pool.

Also in this quite wonderful tasting berry, hide many ingredients that the body likes and needs. Worth mentioning is the high beta-carotene content, as well as iron and vitamins C, A, B1, and B6.
I prefer to eat the little vitamin bombs directly from the bush, but also pickled in rum they make a good figure, which you can no longer claim from the taster if he nibbles too many of them.

Physalis2.jpg

You notice already, there is no lack of food and I'm glad that nature means well with me and meanwhile relieves me a little with it, in which she does her work independently, without my doing anything else, and I only have to harvest.

So jetzt habe ich aber genug gesabbelt.
Bis zum nächsten mal!
😎

So now I have but enough talk.
Until the next time! 😎
