For 3 years I dedicated myself to theater, and that journey left me with many pleasant experiences. Today I want to tell you what I learned in those years while I share with you the best photos I have of the plays I participated in.

Durante 3 años me dediqué a hacer teatro, y ese recorrido me dejó muchas gratas experiencias. Hoy quiero contarles lo que aprendí en esos años mientras comparto con ustedes las mejores fotos que conservo de las obras en las que participé.¡Espero que se diviertan!
My adventure in theater began in high school, with two plays that I directed myself, one based on Romeo and Juliet, and the other on the Sayona (a popular Venezuelan horror myth).
Mi aventura en el teatro comenzó en la secundaria, con dos obras de teatro que dirigí yo misma, una sobre Romeo y Julieta, y otra sobre la Sayona (un espanto popular de Venezuela).
However, it was in college when I decided to take this passion seriously, and I joined the University Theater.
Sin embargo, fue ya en la universidad cuando decidí tomar en serio esta pasión, y me enrolé en el Teatro Universitario.
With them I participated in several comedy plays, among them "Sainetes", a play that satirizes the Venezuelan society of the 50s.
Con ellos participé en varias obras de teatro de comedia, entre ellos "Sainetes", una obra que satiriza a la sociedad Venezolana de los años 50.
In this team I learned that there are no small roles in theater (or in life). Everyone has an indispensable role to play, from the main characters to the one behind the scenes running the smoke machine. Only teamwork can make the play come out perfectly and get the audience's recognition.
En este equipo aprendí que no hay roles pequeños en el teatro (ni en la vida). Todo el mundo tiene una función indispensable que cumplir, desde los protagonistas hasta el que está tras bambalinas manejando la máquina de humo. Sólo el trabajo en equipo puede lograr que la obra salga perfecta y conseguir el reconocimiento del público.
It is normal that when you start in the theater you are assigned a small role. If you do it with disdain, you stay in that small role forever, while if you put all your heart into it and perfect it, the director will notice your motivation and give you more demanding roles. Theater teaches you to be humble, patient, and to grow from the inside out.
Es normal que al comenzar en el teatro te asignan un rol pequeño. Si lo haces con desdén, te quedas en ese rol pequeño para siempre, mientras que si le pones todas las ganas y lo vas perfeccionando, el director se dará cuenta de tu motivación, y te dará papeles más exigentes. El teatro te enseña a ser humilde, paciente, y a crecer de dentro hacia afuera.
I also learned that any play is only complete with the interaction of the audience. The terror, laughter and expressions we receive on stage complement and even modify the play, and the play is enriched/perfected as it is presented on more occasions to different audiences.
También aprendí que cualquier obra de teatro sólo está completa con la interacción del público. El terror, las risas y las expresiones que recibimos en el escenario complementan e incluso modifican la obra de teatro, y ésta se va enriqueciendo/perfeccionando a medida que se va presentando en más oportunidades a públicos distintos.
I also learned that no matter how well prepared the play is, you must always have well exercised the ability to improvise, because in live shows, anything can happen!
También aprendí que sin importar cuán bien preparada esté la obra, siempre debes tener bien ejercitada la capacidad de improvisar, ya que en los espectáculos en vivo, ¡cualquier cosa puede pasar!
In one of the Sainetes performances, in the middle of a dialogue, my skirt unbuttoned and fell to the floor! I was able to keep my composure and pick up my skirt without going out of character, so the audience thought it was part of the show.
En una de las funciones de Sainetes, a mitad de un diálogo, ¡se me desabrochó la falda y cayó al suelo! Pude mantener la compostura y recoger mi falda sin salir de personaje, por lo que el público pensó que era parte del espectáculo.
Something similar happened to me in the adaptation we did of the play " The Cinderella of Anger", by Román Chalbaud. In the first performance, the stuffed hen's head fell off, and we had to mourn for her sudden and unexpected death.
Algo similar me pasó en la adaptación que hicimos de la obra "La cenicienta de la ira", de Román Chalbaud. En la primera función, a la gallina de peluche se le cayó la cabeza, y tuvimos que lamentarnos por su súbita e inesperada muerte.
This play has been one of my favorites because I had the opportunity to play a villain (one of Cinderella's stepsisters). I really like antagonistic roles.
Esta obra ha sido una de mis favoritas porque tuve la oportunidad de hacer un papel de villana (una de las hermanastras de cenicienta). Me gustan mucho los papeles antagónicos.
After my university experience I decided to go one step further, and I cast to join "Comunicalle", the theater group of the Venezuelan Ministry of Communication. I was turning my passion into my profession! A dream come true.
Luego de mi experiencia universitaria decidí ir un paso más allá, e hice casting para entrar en "Comunicalle", el grupo de teatro del Ministerio de Comunicación de Venezuela. Estaba convirtiendo mi pasión en mi profesión! Todo un sueño hecho realidad.
The plays we did at Comunicalle had a cultural and informative function. Our mission was to bring ethical and historical issues in an entertaining way to the communities, mainly to children.
Las obras de teatro que hacíamos en Comunicalle tenían una función cultural e informativa. Nuestra misión era llevar temas éticos e históricos de manera entretenida a las comunidades, principalmente a los niños.
This play, for example, is called "Otto the Earthquake", and we taught the correct emergency procedure to follow in case of earthquakes.
Esta obra, por ejemplo, se llama "Otto el terremoto", y enseñábamos el procedimiento de emergencia correcto que se debe seguir en caso de sismos.
While in this one we embodied the main characters of the history of Venezuelan independence and related their exploits to ethical values.
Mientras que en esta otra encarnábamos a los personajes principales de la historia de independencia de Venezuela y relacionábamos sus proezas con valores morales.
And in this one we gave recommendations when using the Internet and social media to avoid risks such as blackmail, extortion, kidnapping, identity theft, among others.
Y en esta dábamos recomendaciones al utilizar el internet y las redes sociales para evitar riesgos como chantaje, extorsión, secuestro, suplantación de identidad, entre otros.
Comunicalle was a new experience in many ways, so it was a constant learning experience.
Comunicalle fue una experiencia nueva en múltiples sentidos, por lo que se trataba de constante aprendizaje.
First, working for children is not remotely similar to working for adults. Children have a short attention span, so you have to be very astute on stage so you don't bore them.
Primero, trabajar para niños no es ni remotamente parecido a trabajar para adultos. Los niños tienen un corto período de atención, por lo que debes ser muy astuto en el escenario para no aburrirlos.
They also participate much more, both to collaborate and to sabotage, so you must be pedagogical and learn to direct their energy towards a positive purpose without getting out of character.
También participan mucho más, tanto para colaborar como para sabotear, por lo que debes ser pedagógico y aprender a dirigir su energía hacia un propósito positivo sin salirte de personaje.
Secondly, there was the situation that we were doing Street Theater, in schools, squares, parks, streets, any kind of place!
En segundo lugar estaba la situación de que hacíamos Teatro de Calle, en escuelas, plazas, parques, calles, ¡cualquier tipo de lugar!
In the performances we didn't have the comfort and privacy of a theater, of dressing rooms, of a boundary between the stage and the audience. There was no room for any kind of embarrassment, not even to change costumes in public.
En las funciones no teníamos la comodidad y privacidad de un teatro, de unos vestidores, de una limitante entre el escenario y el público. No había espacio para ningún tipo de vergüenza, ni siquiera para cambiarse de vestuario en público.
Our theater backdrop was dismountable and transportable. We assembled and disassembled it for each performance. Among all the cast, I was the one who knew how to put it together the fastest!
Nuestro teatrino era desarmable y transportable. Lo armábamos y desarmábamos en cada función. Entre todo el elenco yo era la que sabía armarlo más rápido!
And finally, the most beautiful lesson that Comunicalle taught me was that we are all capable of doing anything if we set our minds to it.
In this theater group, even though there was a director and a scriptwriter, all the actors had the right to propose a script to develop, or to take the baton in the direction of the plays if we had good ideas to contribute to the assembly.
Y por último, el aprendizaje más bonito que me dejó Comunicalle, fue el de que todos somos capaces de hacer lo que sea si nos lo proponemos.
En este grupo de teatro, a pesar de que había un director, y una guionista, todos los actores teníamos el derecho a proponer un guión para desarrollar, o a tomar la batuta en la dirección de las obras si teníamos buenas ideas qué aportar al montaje.
This brought us together as a group, because we all had the same responsibilities and we supported each other to achieve higher goals.
That is how I came to write, produce and direct one of the greatest works that Comunicalle had:
Esto nos unía mucho como grupo, porque todos teníamos las mismas responsabilidades y nos apoyábamos entre todos para lograr metas más altas.
Fue así como llegué a escribir, producir y dirigir una de las obras más grandes que tuvo comunicalle:
"A Venezuelan Christmas Carol"
Based on the famous story by Charles Dickens in which an old miser is visited on Christmas Eve by the ghosts of the past, present and future to make him reflect on his decisions.
"Un Cuento Venezolano de Navidad"
Basado en la famosa historia de Charles Dickens en la que un viejo avaro es visitado en noche buena por los fantasmas del pasado, el presente y el futuro para hacerlo reflexionar sobre sus decisiones.
I left Comunicalle because I felt that my work was poorly paid, but every time Christmas approaches I can't help but remember this play, which I was lucky enough to present in two consecutive seasons, and it makes me want to do theater again!
Me fui de Comunicalle porque consideraba que mi trabajo era mal pagado, pero cada vez que se acerca la navidad no puedo evitar recordar esta obra, que tuve la suerte de presentar en dos temporadas consecutivas, y me dan una ganas gigantes de volver a hacer teatro!
