My Mom used to make these Deep Fried Bananas pretty regularly back when frying stuff was still ok when I was a kid. These days I barely fry anything and tend to stick to boiling, baking or grilling in order to remove excess oil from our diet.

But after our many days of hiking I was craving a good old fashioned dessert and we happened to have a bag of bananas on the kitchen table and you can make a basic batter from the staples in the pantry cupboard.

I can’t say I have a set recipe for the batter because I kind of threw everything together and hoped for the best. But the idea is to batter the bananas, deep fry them and then serve with Ice Cream and chocolate sauce or maple syrup.

And let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious!!!! 🤤 My daughter loves cooked banana and she just about inhaled it. My husband isn’t too keen on bananas and even he commented on how good it was.

The trick is to fry them until the batter is gorgeous and golden and the banana inside has begun to cook and soften.

Here’s a rough recipe that you can tweak if needed.

INGREDIENTS

½ cup self raising flour
1 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
Bottle of seed oil in a deep medium pot
Fresh peeled Bananas (as many as you like)

I’ve made a video so that you can see the consistency and then you can add more flour or milk depending on if you need it thicker or runnier.

METHOD

Heat the oil in a pot on medium high heat.

Serve immediately with Ice Cream and Maple Syrup or Chocolate Sauce!!!

Now that my family have tasted this yumminess I reckon I’ll be making it a lot more often. You just can’t be calorie counting when this one lands on your plate.

Yuuuuuuummmmmmmm!
