TacoCat's TrEats #108: Yummy Noodleys! 🍜

Hey Hive!

Recently, the Singapore government announced that there will basically be another lockdown, so unfortunately, we're unable to eat in restaurants and food courts/hawker centers now and can only do takeaways. We've also been limiting our time spent just being out in general, to be safe. So we've been ordering in and doing more takeouts nowadays.

We went back to our neighbourhood shopping complex for another grocery run and bought dinner back but today we tried a different stall! There's a huge food court/hawker center on the upper level of this complex called Kampung Admiralty.

Dining in was still prohibited at the time, so there weren't any chairs to sit on and everyone could only do takeaways. It was quite unfortunate but we rarely eat here anyway since our house isn't too far away.

There's a myriad of shops to choose from here, and we're always spoilt for choice! But the other day, we decided to try out this stall called Long Ding Seafood:

I'm not sure if this is a chain, but here in Singapore these type of stalls are known as tze char, which is a Hokkien term used to describe a Chinese food stall which provides a wide selection of common and affordable dishes which approximate home-cooked meals. Because of the wide selection of food they offer including variations of rice, noodle, vegetables, meat and seafood, they're a popular choice for gatherings.

Here's their menu:

As you can see there are a lot of options available, and they have noodle and rice dishes as well, which is what we chose! We placed our orderd and after about 10-15 minutes or so, we got our food and were on our way back home to enjoy it!

Sean decided on the Mee Goreng, which is stir-friend noodles with some spices, seafood and vegetables.

While I ordered the Hokkien Noodle, which is also stir-fried but with some gravy, vegetables, meat and fishcakes.

Both were actually really yummy! The mee goreng got a tad spicy after a while but it was a good level of spice. And when it got too spicy we'd just switch since my hokkien noodle wasn't spicy. The hokkien noodle wasn't too wet and had a chewy texture too! The noodles were just the right amount of thickness as well. I don't like my noodles too thick so this was just nice.

We've actually bought from this stall quite a few times since then and Sean had ordered the mee goreng every single time because of how much he loves it. I tried another dish - the Xinzhou Bee Hoon the second time we bought from them but it was kinda meh.

I mean it was alright, but kinda pales in comparison to Sean's mee goreng. It was a little too plain, but because this was dry we could mix with the mee goreng to offset some of the spiciness as well. Still a little too plain for my taste though.

But I'd say it's a stall definitely worth checking out and if you haven't tried tze char before, I highly recommend it because it's delicious, affordable and convenient! It may not be the healthiest, but it's worth it once in a while.

Thanks so much for reading!
