How to Cook Potato Donuts

Some time ago, I made potato donuts. It was popular in Indonesia in 2015. I will try to make this dish. But before I write down the ingredients and how to make this food, it's a good idea to listen to the history of this food.


This dish has become one of my favorite foods. The texture of the donut is smooth, he said it came from potatoes. The addition of potatoes and the reduction of flour make the texture of the donuts softer. They have actually been around since the mid 1900s. However, the concept was introduced until 1938.

Indonesia was still fighting for independence that year. Some countries have developed rapidly with machines or with manufactured food. Back to the potato donut, the texture is lighter than other types. I like the texture.


In 1950, the first potato donuts were made in the United States. It then spread across America in 500 locations before finally thinning to 50 in the mid-2000s. Initially, Al and Bon Pelton wanted to make a new kind of donut. They experimented with mixing potato water into the dough. However, the results are not satisfactory.

The two brothers returned to their experiment. Both add mashed potatoes to the dough donuts. The result was unexpected. The donuts are soft and many people like this food. The two founded spudnuts donuts in Salt Lake City in 1940. This dish became very popular.

However, in 1970 it went bankrupt and left only 10 stores. Besides the United States, potato donuts are popular in Indonesia. Potato donuts are only sprinkled with powdered sugar or cocoa. Potato donuts can be eaten by adding a cup of tea or coffee. Really enjoyed in the afternoon.

The advantage of potato donuts with donuts made from wheat flour is that the donuts will remain soft even if they are left for longer. The savory taste makes this food popular. In fact, it does not replace the use of flour entirely. This donut uses only 50 percent potatoes and only 50 percent wheat flour. For very soft donuts usually use high protein flour.

Inggredient Used

1#. 300 grams of high protein flour

2#. 100 grams of steamed potatoes, mashed potatoes

3#. Thirty grams of sugar.

4#. Half a spoon of instant yeast

5#. 10 grams of powdered milk

6#. 1 egg, I use egg yolk

7#. One hundred and fifty ounces of iced water

8#. Thirty grams of margarine

9#. 1 teaspoon salt

How to Cook

1#. Mix flour, potatoes, sugar, instant yeast, and powdered milk

2#. Add the egg yolks and ice water little by little. Stir until smooth.

3#. Once smooth, add margarine and salt. Stir until smooth. Leave it for 30 minutes

4#. The dough rises, and you can shape the dough to your liking. After that, let stand for 30 minutes. The dough will rise again.

5#. After that, you can fry the dough. Or you can bake the dough for 10 minutes at 160 degrees Celsius.

6#. I use chocolate and meses as donut topping. You can use whatever toppings you like. You can use grated cheese.

7#. Potato donuts are ready to eat
