Some of the fast-food we Venezuelans eat is influenced by many cultures. This is possibly linked to two factors. The first is that Venezuelans who do tourism in other countries come back with many new ideas. The second, and more important, is that at the end of the 20th century Venezuela became one of the most popular destinations for immigrants. With the waves of immigrants also came different gastronomic options that were adapted to our palates. This gave us a wide range of possibilities when it came to eating. Today I will share with you the Venezuelan version of hamburgers, hot dogs, and shawarmas.
HAMBURGER
A hamburger (also burger for short) is a food, typically considered a sandwich, consisting of one or more cooked patties of ground meat, usually beef, placed inside a sliced bread roll or bun. The patty may be pan-fried, grilled, smoked, or flame-broiled. Hamburgers are often served with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, bacon, or chiles; condiments such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, or a "special sauce", often a variation of Thousand Island dressing; and are frequently placed on sesame seed buns. A hamburger topped with cheese is called a cheeseburger. Source
We have several types of hamburgers that we usually classify as normal, special, big, and " Rueda de camión" (truck wheel). The last two are the biggest ones and contain the most ingredients. The fries are usually inside the hamburger and not served separately. Some of the additional ingredients that may be included are avocado, cooked minced chicken, fried egg, shredded beef, chorizo, yellow cheese, and ham.
HOT DOGS
A hot dog (less commonly spelled hotdog) is a food consisting of a grilled or steamed sausage served in the slit of a partially sliced bun, and much debate has centered around whether or not it can be considered a sandwich; the term can also refer to the sausage itself. Source
Hot dogs also have many variations in our case. They can be seasoned and stuffed much like hamburgers. This will always depend on the type of hot dog you choose to eat, we have regular hot dogs, special hot dogs, naked hot dogs, choripanes, and peppers.
SHAWARMA
Shawarma (/ʃəˈwɑːrmə/; Arabic: شاورما) is a Levantine Arab dish consisting of meat cut into thin slices, stacked in a cone-like shape, and roasted on a slowly-turning vertical rotisserie or spit.
Shawarma is commonly served as a sandwich or wrap, in a flatbread such as a pita or laffa. In the Middle East, chicken shawarma is typically served with garlic sauce, fries, and pickles. Source
The variations of Shawarma that are made in my country will depend on whether we want it with meat, chicken, or mixed. Usually, they are not served with bacon but with ham and cheese. The toppings are the same as for hamburgers and hot dogs.
I know that nowadays the millions of Venezuelans who have emigrated from my country have also taken our typical dishes to all corners of the world. Today there must be variations of our arepas and empanadas everywhere. And although I'm not proud of the reasons why many have emigrated, I'm very happy to know that there is a wonderful cultural exchange that brings us all closer together.

Parte de la comida rápida que comemos los venezolanos está influenciada por muchas culturas. Esto posiblemente esté relacionado con dos factores. El primero es que los venezolanos que hacen turismo en otros países vuelven con muchas ideas nuevas. El segundo, y más importante, es que a finales del siglo XX Venezuela se convirtió en uno de los destinos más populares para los inmigrantes. Con las oleadas de inmigrantes también llegaron diferentes opciones gastronómicas que se adaptaron a nuestros paladares. Esto nos dio un amplio abanico de posibilidades a la hora de comer. Hoy compartiré con ustedes la versión venezolana de las hamburguesas, los perros calientes y los shawarmas.
HAMBURGUESA
Una hamburguesa (también hamburguesa para abreviar) es un alimento, normalmente considerado un sándwich, que consiste en una o más hamburguesas cocinadas de carne picada, normalmente de vacuno, colocadas dentro de un panecillo o pan de molde. La hamburguesa puede estar frita, asada, ahumada o asada a la parrilla. Las hamburguesas suelen servirse con queso, lechuga, tomate, cebolla, pepinillos, bacon o chiles; condimentos como ketchup, mostaza, mayonesa, salsa de tomate o una "salsa especial", a menudo una variación del aderezo Thousand Island; y suelen colocarse en panecillos con semillas de sésamo. Tenemos varios tipos de hamburguesas que solemos clasificar como normales, especiales, grandes y "Rueda de camión". Las dos últimas son las más grandes y las que contienen más ingredientes. Las patatas fritas suelen estar dentro de la hamburguesa y no se sirven por separado. Algunos de los ingredientes adicionales que pueden incluirse son aguacate, pollo picado cocido, huevo frito, carne de vaca desmenuzada, chorizo, queso amarillo y jamón.
HOT DOGS
Un perrito caliente (menos comúnmente deletreado hotdog) es un alimento que consiste en una salchicha a la parrilla o al vapor servida en la hendidura de un bollo parcialmente cortado, y se ha debatido mucho sobre si puede considerarse o no un sándwich; el término también puede referirse a la propia salchicha. Los perritos calientes también tienen muchas variaciones en nuestro caso. Se pueden condimentar y rellenar de forma muy parecida a las hamburguesas. Esto siempre dependerá del tipo de perrito caliente que elijas comer, tenemos perritos calientes normales, especiales, desnudos, choripanes y pimientos.
SHAWARMA
El shawarma (/ʃəˈwɑːrmə/; árabe: شاورما) es un plato árabe levantino que consiste en carne cortada en finas lonchas, apiladas en forma de cono, y asadas en un asador vertical que gira lentamente.
El shawarma suele servirse en forma de sándwich o envoltorio, en un pan plano como la pita o laffa. En Oriente Medio, el shawarma de pollo suele servirse con salsa de ajo, patatas fritas y pepinillos. Fuente
Las variaciones del shawarma que se hacen en mi país dependerán de si lo queremos con carne, pollo o mixto. Por lo general, no se sirven con tocino, sino con jamón y queso. Los aderezos son los mismos que para las hamburguesas y los perritos calientes.
Sé que hoy en día los millones de venezolanos que han emigrado de mi país también han llevado nuestros platos típicos a todos los rincones del mundo. Hoy debe haber variaciones de nuestras arepas y empanadas en todas partes. Y aunque no me enorgullezco de las razones por las que muchos han emigrado, me alegra mucho saber que existe un maravilloso intercambio cultural que nos acerca a todos.
