Noodles with Chicken for lunch and SFENJ for tea time...Check out how to make Sfenj - A yummy classic Moroccan Snack!

It looks like the harsh winter days are going away now...today was such a lovely warm day here in Mauritius!

Summer is knocking at the doors...

As I had a tooth extraction yesterday, I have to eat some soft foods for couple of days until everything is healed in my mouth.

So for lunch today, it was my husband who prepared lunch...Boiled Noodles with Chicken and Tomato Salad! You can see his recipe on the link below - It was really very delicious and I had no problem eating it.

While he was busy preparing lunch, I made the dough to make a classic Moroccan snack named SFENJ!

Sfenj is a very popular fried snack that you can found around Morocco and is best enjoyed accompanied with a hot Moroccan Mint Tea!

It is such an easy snack that anyone can have a try at home...

You will simply need the following ingredients :

  • 500 gms of flour
  • Salt
  • 1 tablespoon of yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vinegar
  • Little warm water

Then I let the dough to rest and raise for about 2 hours...then knead it again until you get the below result!

The dough must be a little bit sticky and very soft.

Then by breaking small pieces - one at a time - I made the SFENJ form...like a donut!

Once it got the desired form...I used 2 different pans for frying...

A flat pan with little oil...I let it cook on one side only.

Then another pan full of hot oil for frying the upper part..

As mentioned above, the best way to enjoy sfenj is with hot Moroccan Mint Tea...but you can also have them with Nutella or some spicy chutney like my husband like.

If you are wondering the texture...let me explain...

They are crispy on the outside and soft inside...
