Borgo Antico: Meat like you've never tasted it before

Hidden in the streets of the historic center of the city of Sammichele, there is a tavern that I particularly love and when I am in those parts, I like to stop and eat. The restaurant attracts a little customers from all the neighboring cities in the name of good meat cooked on the grill, using coals deriving from the olive trees, annually pruned for better health of the plant

The butcher is on the street and this is where customers stop first, to order the various meat specialties they want to eat. The counter houses a vast amount of types of meat: ribs, rolls, meatballs, sausage and much more. The meat is already seasoned or prepared to be cooked and eaten. Once the shopping is finished, we are accompanied to the room on the first floor of the building, accessed by an external staircase.

Here we are greeted by the boys who retrieve the meat we have brought and entrust it to the people in charge of cooking on the grill. The meat is cooked a little at a time so you can eat with ease and enjoy some of the house appetizers such as grilled vegetables and potatoes cooked on the grill. The flavor of the meat is really excellent, tender and well seasoned and the scent of the smoke of the coals adds a particularly delicate and appreciated aroma. The restaurant has been decorated in a rustic way, we are in a small town that lives off the products of their animals and the restaurant maintains a style similar to that of the farm. From the decorations of the tables, to those on the walls, to the dishes, everything is reminiscent of the countryside, from which all this arises.

Veal breaded with breadcrumbs and cheese is the meat I love the most: tender, tasty and lightly toasted. Very good and typical of Sammichele is the zampina sausage, a very juicy and tasty mixture of meat! The restaurant is very welcoming, although there are not many tables and seats inside, so reservations are required especially during the winter season. In summer, however, the streets of the city become a single large banquet, joining the tables of the other neighboring restaurants and here the embers become an element of attraction, expanses of burning coals on which vegetables and meat are continuously cooked.

The ancient village is a guarantee of excellence for the quality of the food, hospitality and also economic: with about 20 euros the customer comes out fully sated and satisfied with his dinner. The meal ends with a local amaro, always made with the best products of the local land, a guarantee of excellence!
