Ginger Milk, Warming Up Your Morning

After turmeric, ginger root or ginger is widely used as a spice and a folk medicine. It is a herbaceous perennial which grows annual pseudostems about one meter tall bearing narrow leaf blades.

As a herbal medicine, ginger is made into a variety of traditional drinks. In Indonesia, so many traditional drinks made by ginger. They are ginger tea, wedang uwuh, bear pleatok, sekoteng, bajigur,wedang ronde, bandrek, saraba, beancurd.

Wedang Uwuh is a typical drink from Yogyakarta. Apart from ginger, other ingredients used to make wedang uwuh are cinnamon, cloves, secang wood, roots and leaves of lemongrass, and rock sugar or brown sugar.

Pletok beer is a typical Betawi drink. This drink is made from ginger, lemongrass, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, secang wood, pandanus and sugar.

Sekoteng is a drink similar to wedang ronde but includes milk. Sekoteng is a drink originating from Central Java.

Bajigur is a drink that comes from West Java. Bajigur is boiled ginger water cooked with brown sugar and thin coconut milk. The pandan leaves and a little salt added in this stew make the bajigur taste even better.

Wedang Ronde is a drink that can be found in Solo. Wedang ronde consists of a sauce made from ginger, brown sugar and pandan. The stuffing in the wedang ronde includes back and forth, fried peanuts and sticky rice balls filled with brown sugar.

Bandrek is also a typical West Java drink. Bandrek has a spicier taste because it is made from thick ginger sauce with brown sugar and other spices.

Sarabba is a drink made from ginger from Makassar. Sarabba is made from ginger, egg yolk, coconut milk, pepper, palm sugar and other spices. Sarabba has a distinctive taste that is useful for warming the body.

Beancurd is often referred to as Tahwa. This drink is made from fresh soybean juice served with boiled ginger water, brown sugar syrup and pandanus.

The last is ginger milk which can be trusted to increase the body's immunity. Ginger milk has even been made instant packaged by companies that make herbal medicines.

But it would be better if you could make it yourself. Making ginger milk is not difficult. You only need a few minutes to make it.

How to Make Ginger Milk

Ingredients:

2 segments of ginger
1 sachet of sweetened condensed white milk
1 cube of brown or palm sugar
2 cup of water

How to Make

Firstly, you have to peeling the ginger and wash it.

After the ginger is clean, flatten the ginger.

Then boil 2 cup of water, ginger, brown sugar and sweetened condensed milk. Boil till effervesce.

Now you can enjoy your ginger milk. Drink while warm.
