🍌 Banana Blossom Salad πŸ₯— Ital/Vegan Recipe

This week's Plant-Based Cooking Challenge πŸ‘¨πŸΏβ€πŸ³ Week #21 included banana blossoms, so I wanted to make a recipe and share it with you all. I went to pick some from the landlord’s garden because the landlord never uses them.

This Cambodian recipe is usually made with chicken or pork and even with fish sauce also, but I changed it to Ital for my family. The banana blossoms can be used in many ways, so if I have them again I will share another recipe with everyone again. Hope you all enjoy it.

Ingredients For Deep Fry Tofu

  • 250g tofu
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp flour for deep-frying

Cut tofu small and add chili powder, paprika, salt and flour mixed together. Then deep fry them.

Ingredients For Salad

  • 2 small banana blossoms
  • 1 big lime's juice or taste
  • 1 long green chili (not spicy)
  • 1 big red chili (spicy)
  • 1 green onion
  • 2 sprigs of parsley
  • crush roasted peanuts as you like
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 red onion
  • 1/2 tsp salt or taste
  • 1 1/2 tbsp brown sugar or taste
  • 1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast (optional)

Normally I would use basil and coriander leaves, but I do not have them so I used parsley because it's easy to find in the store. I can eat parsley but I don’t like it very much.

Slice red onions, garlic, green onion, parsley, and chilies.

Peel the old outer layers off and use only the young inner layers. Take some water and add a little salt and lime juice so it doesn't change color to black.

Then slice the banana blossoms little by little and put in the water. If we wait too long after we cut them before putting in the water, they will to black.

After remove them from the water and squeeze them.

Put salt, brown sugar, soy sauce, lime juice and nutritional yeast in a bowl and stir it until dissolved.

Then add blossoms, chilies, garlic, red onion, and mix up together and taste it. Then add green onions, parsley and crushed roasted peanuts and fried tofu. Mix it up again, it’s ready.
