Solstice time combined with the astronomical Grand Trine alignment of stationary Jupiter, Sun and Moon

It’s the solstice and time to celebrate. When the sun stands still and the cardinal point on the tropical zodiac or annual cycle is reached, we mark a juncture point in the year. The four cardinal points of equinox and solstice are times when the sun’s movement makes a step into the next chapter of its journey, so to speak. Today is just such a day.

Here in the south it’s naturally mid-winter so I like to observe the festivities that the northern hemisphere would usually have, like Saturnalia or Christmas, not that I’m Christian or pagan, but some sort of festivities on the sun’s journey feel natural around now, as they do at the equinox.

I also like to observe the positions and times of the rising and setting sun today, since they will be at the most extreme. The shortest day of the year means it’s about to get longer from here on which calls for a celebration. Stonehenge is a perfect place to observe the positions of the sun at sunrise and sunset, but I can still observe the alignments here in the south, simply by basing them relative to a fixed object, like a tree or a building.

I presume in the north you could call today the midsummer night’s eve, like the title of that Shakespeare play. I’m sure people across the globe are feeling the influence of the solstice now, one way or the other. It’s actually quite auspicious this year because the solstice moment now is blessed with a grand trine of sun, moon and Jupiter 120 degrees apart from each other. The position of the three luminaries forms a perfect equilateral triangle in the heavens for a few hours today at the solstice. Jupiter is also stationary today and about to go into its retrograde phase for four months.

These are all coincidental astronomical and astrological events today which add a bit of flavor to the solstice. It symbolizes good fortune to have that grand trine of the primary heavenly bodies right now. You might say that it’s an opportune day for a ceremony or ritual for abundance. The sun and Jupiter are the two biggest objects in our solar system and along with the moon the three of them exert the most magnetic pull on our earth and ourselves.

Astrologically the grand trine is also a very spiritually inspiring time. You can tap in to your deeper spiritual inclinations now, and uplift your consciousness to newer heights of awareness whether internal or external. Whether from receiving new wisdom from relevant texts or from your own private meditations, today’s grand trine and solstice moment is the ideal time to channel the flow of infinite possibilities and become wiser that before.

Life is actually meant for introspection and self-realization. Everything else is secondary. Unfortunately society has been engineered to push us into consumerism and chasing the buck. This puts our spiritual life on the back burner sometimes. However, on days like today we can set aside the daily grind for our bread as we absorb ourselves in knowledge or intuition regarding our eternal nature beyond the temporary body and mind.

As Jupiter goes stationary today and begins its retrograde phase, we can use the energy to meditate on abundance in the spiritual as well as the material sense. We may have cash limitations lately due to the global circumstances but we can still feel abundant internally, thanks to sources of knowledge and wisdom from the world’s Mystery Traditions. I like to listen to some lectures on consciousness or esoterica from world renowned teachers.

The name for Jupiter in the Jyotish or Indian Vedic astrology tradition is “Guru”. Literally it means “heavy” (being the biggest planet) and also alludes to the guru or teacher as being heavy with knowledge. The guru appears externally in the form of the teacher and also internally in the form of the divinity within the core of the heart, as it’s described in the Vedas. One can receive wisdom from both of these sources.

Even in western astrology Jupiter is associated with ecclesiastical affairs, philosophy, law and such higher subjects. Thus the Jupiter stationary retrograde moment in Grand Trine with sun and moon, as well as the solstice, make today quite a special moment in the year, so be sure to tap in, one way or another. Blessings and abundance await those who realize that the best things in life are free and that we have it all already within us. All that we seek for enjoying life is already present, and it is a matter of consciousness and perspective as to whether you are able to tap in to it or not.
