Mercury retrograde transits the sun with magic, poetry and fun

Mercury sol luna alchemy.jpg

Apollo dawns on this new day
pure golden rays to light the way
our new moon beams or so it seems
quicksilver tongue enrich my dreams

Mercurius cazimi bold
in retrograde your tale is told
of how the three the mystery
the waking dream revealed to me

Arise in triple junction now
cazimi with the new moon’s bough
eclipse the golden beams in full
between the horns of the great bull

Your tripartite alliance meets
to shed still more blood in the streets
as traders underwater sail
while at a loss they try to bail

All hands on decks decentralize
converging revolutions rise
while history is made today
your triple junction lights the way

While sol and luna link as one
the moon eclipsed the golden sun
with mercury conjunct them too
rare time of unity for you

All welcome mighty royal court
majestic king and queen most sought
along with loyal knight and scribe
magician of the global tribe

I hear you now reveal your name
reveal your secrets, play the game
of life and limb and liberty
your mercy has now set me free

Enlightened liberated soul
your union has now made me whole
I fly with wings of ecstasy
new golden dawn awakes with me

The tide now turns the bottom’s in
from here it’s up, all traders win
the candles green and gold unseen
will flow upon the golden mean

Give thanks to you dear trinity
your royal flush is ours to see
our diamond hands will fill the lands
revealing your true mystery

Like Rama and Sita’s court divine
dear sun and moon in union shine
while Lakshman at your side with pride
now serves all needs as you decide

I feel your blessings flowing now
and thank you for your golden bough
your golden fleece and your new lease
as life and liberty increase

I awoke this morning just before sunrise and just in time to catch the last few minutes of the Mercury “cazimi” period, which only lasts a few hours. And as usual at this moment, as the planet Mercury transits past the sun in conjunction, I was able to compose another poem for my collection. This event occurs six times a year generally, in three sets of two close events which are two months apart.

What causes it is the planet Mercury orbiting the sun at its rapid pace, while we also orbit the sun at a slightly slower pace. Astronomers who observe these movements of the heavenly bodies from earth, can see Mercury pass behind the sun while it’s moving forward, and eight weeks later can see Mercury transit behind the sun in the other direction.

It sounds confusing but is merely due to the varying rates of rotation and also our particular point of observation of the orbits. As Mercury moves across the face of the sun – either behind it while moving forward or in front, between earth and sun, while moving in retrograde – there is a period of a few hours which is called “cazimi” by Medieval astrologers. This is the period when Mercury is exactly at the center of the transit, or when the conjunction is most exact. “Cazimi” translates to mean “in the heart of the sun” and is also alluded to as Mercury sitting on the throne of the sun.

The general period when Mercury crosses the sun in transit, from our point of view on earth, actually causes Mercury to become invisible simply because the sun’s rays are blinding and one cannot see the little planet due to the brightness of the sun’s rays. Ancient astrologers symbolically called this period “Mercury combust” or “under the beams” and labelled it as a time when the influence of Mercury is debilitated.

This implied that the mind might be clouded; thinking, communication and local travel might be hampered somewhat and confusion or delay might arise for those few days, much like the better known Mercury retrograde part of the cycle. However, those few hours when Mercury is directly at the center of the conjunction – “on the throne of the sun” or “cazimi” – are considered to be a most powerful time of magic and genius. That moment has just passed and I managed to capture the last minutes of it upon waking now, and used it to compose another poem glorifying the god’s that these heavenly bodies mythically represent.

Let me know what you think of the poem which uses a strict structure of rhyming couplets and pentameter or rhythm. It contains esoteric symbolism alluding to the Alchemical and astrological myth of Mercury, the winged messenger, muse and scribe. Rama, Sita and Lakshman are Vishnu and Lakshmi avatars from the Vedic literature, which I link to the Sun, Moon and Mercury heavenly bodies in this poem. Some Greek mythology symbols are also present.

The poem just springs out of my imagination and I let the words flow onto the screen without too much pre-meditation. The similar themes are alluded to in each of the poems every few months like this, which reveal naturally the state of my mind in general, for what it’s worth. Trading is naturally a part of it, since Mercury is the god of traders, and I’m a cryptocurrency day trader as one of my hobbies.

The markets are in a major downside correction now during this Mercury retrograde and the eclipse phase this fortnight, so I’m meditating on them bottoming out and making a swing back up and into profit. Other than that, I also see this current very rare triple conjunction of new moon solar eclipse plus Mercury also transiting the sun/ moon conjunction, as an opportunity for inner alignment, centering and union. So may the gods/archetypes, both inner and outer, pave the way to a new green day.
