What's new on my orchard? may edition.

I have been meaning to update you for a couple of weeks on how things are going in my garden but I haven't had any time and now I am struggling to catch up with the growth of my plants. Here we received the month of May with plenty of rain which was very beneficial for the plants which went from fighting the inclement drought to growing Hulk style. Next I will tell you what I started planting at the end of April and then (in a next post) I will show you how they progressed during the course of this month.

The truth is that practically all my latest crops have been quite successful but there are two in particular that make me very proud. The first one is the passion fruit plant. It has been a long story that I have had with this crop but now that I see the fruits I am more than happy, so far I have harvested about 8 or 10 and they are spectacular, its size is like a tennis ball or baseball, and they are super heavy, when you open them you notice why, they have a lot of pulp! nothing to do with those passion fruit from the supermarket that come empty, with only a spoonful of pulp.

| My cat also likes passion fruit hehe

The second crop that I am most fond of is my pumpkins, I think at the moment I have about 3 varieties and it is also one of those that I have been given by trial and error and that cost me, but the satisfaction that is given is equal to the effort that I have put

The main one is this pumpkin that in a previous post I showed when it was just flowering and coming out and now look how it is going, I will be eating a lot of pumpkin in July hahahaha

Then there is my 2nd attempt with this butternut squash or santa barbara. Initially I had planted them together with some cassava plants but the cassavas started to grow very fast and it took all the sun away from them, in the end all of them died except 1 that even managed to give a tiny fruit. I decided not to give up with these and planted them in another sunny area and they have been a success.

By the way, I have noticed a particularity in this variety of squash and it is that they bloom very soon (with the big one it took me about 3 months to see the first female flower) but unlike the others I have seen, these have given first the female flowers and then the male ones, does anyone know why this happens? At the moment I have managed with pollen from the big plant, but I think I will not be able to use the seeds from these as I have read that they become hybridized.

Anyway, I will continue. After a long time I am trying my luck with peppers again, this time with a well fertilized soil.

La guardiana de los pimentones jejeje. | The guardian of the peppers hehehe

And in view of the great development of my chili plants, I planted in pots separating the varieties, although I do not really know their names, only that they are of different shapes and that all of them are sweet, that is to say, they are not spicy.

Now it's time for fun hahaha. Here come my experiments, these plants had not worked out well before or I had never tried them: Chives, black beans, sunflowers and pineapple.

All these plants are planted from things bought at the supermarket, only the sunflower I bought at a pet food store but they sell it in the market anyway. I didn't take any special care or pre-treatment with any of them, I put them directly in the soil and that's it.

In fact, all my plants have been obtained from offspring or cuttings that I have been given as gifts or I have bought the fruit or vegetables at the market to obtain the seeds. I could never have imagined having such a varied garden without having bought a single plant or seed, nor have I ever bought fertilizers or chemical pesticides, everything has been completely natural!

I am very happy to keep in touch with you and show you the benefits of planting and growing our own food, even if it doesn't always turn out the way we want it to. I hope you like this express tour and always thanks for stopping by my blog.
