Sandbank on Sukhona. Pt.1

This is direct evidence of the cyclical nature of natural phenomena! The sandbank on the Sukhona river in Veliky Ustyug opposite the Cathedral Courtyard appears approximately every 4-5 years. The last time I walked on the shallow sandy bottom of the river was in the fall of 2014.

But then I had to overcome a small ford or jump over a narrow channel. Now through the channel you can walk along a log.

This year the sandbank broke all records for its size.

When you look from the coast from above, it seems that it is quite small.

But when you stand in the middle of the shallow, you get the feeling that the river has simply disappeared.

The weather has created ideal conditions for swimming: no need to travel far out of town in search of a sandy beach.

By the way, in the Soviet years, the city beach was located here.

As a child, I remember large crowds of people, changing cabins and how I crossed the channel with my dad to get to the sandbank.

Photos scattered across local publics on social networks with the keywords "the river is dry", so much so that it got a resonance.

The local hydrometeorologists had to give an official comment that in fact there is no problem.

There were years when the river froze at negative water levels in the Baltic system.
