A Walk to the Old Mill on the Chatsworth Estate, Derbyshire

The Chatsworth Estate is one of my favourite places in my area. It covers 35,000 acres so you can visit it many times for walks.

This time we concentrated on visiting the old derelict mill beside the river Derwent on the estate. The mill dates from 1759, and was built by James Paine for the 4th Duke. It replaced an old mill nearer Chatsworth House.

The last time it was used was for grinding corn in 1950. I remember as a kid a tree fell on the roof. It seemed to be there for ages. Today, only the carcass of the mill remains including the wheel.

One of the small waterfalls on the estate. It's a popular spot for photographers. Lots of tripods lined up!

The sheep clocked us. They were very curious but only let us get so close, before they moved off.

After the torrential rain we had on Friday, everything looked green and lush. Pity the sun was only just coming out when we left.
