Sunday is meant for relaxing or for exploring so today we decided to explore a beach we had heard nice things about.
Unfortunately we started our day at 13:00 which is a big no no, especially for Sunday in Crete! Tourists and locals are all over the island so it is not easy to find a parking or a quiet spot.
Anyways, we wanted to visit Voulisma beach but it was impossible to find a parking so we went searching for other options ahead!
We came across a village named “Pahia Ammos” (literally translated as Thick Sand) and in front of it was a beautiful sandy beach.
This village overlooks the Mirabello Bay and is appx 20 kilometers away from Agios Nikolaos
It was easier to find a parking spot so we headed right to the beach after the many many tavernas (full of people) on the seaside
And this is what we saw
Beautiful. Tamarisks all over and some umbrellas with shade
We found a shady spot and headed to the sea
The sea was lovely. Not too warm and not too cold. Not too deep and with nice, light colored sand around
But we noticed many many little pieces of plastic around us and some in the sea
I started gathering all these little pieces and was taking them to the litter box
But it was not enough
They were too many
This is a short video of the place
And a few more shots
Would I recommend it? If it gets cleaned of course!
