Reagan was shot in 1981 but survived. Princess Diana got married that year. That E.T. movie starring that peanut-looking alien who was trying to phone home and who flew kids in bikes over the moon premiered in 1982. Thriller came out that year. ARPA-net adopted TCP/IP protocols in 1983, this was a beta version of the Internet.

AT&T or Bell System was broken up into regional companies in 1984. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) debuts in the U.S in 1985. Halley's Comet flies by in 1986. Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered in 1987. The Olympics were held in South Korea in 1988. The fall of the Berlin Wall happened in 1989. Bush Sr. became the 41st U.S. President that year. In 1983, Ronald Reagan declassifies GPS for public use; it will be shut down again in 1990 for the Gulf War and re-activated again in 1993. The Global Positioning System (GPS), originally Navstar GPS, is a satellite-based radionavigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force. 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia intensifies with renewed drought by mid-year, killing a million people by the end of this year.

The Famicom was probably the Japanese version of the NES which came out in 1983.

September 17 – Vanessa L. Williams becomes the first African American to be crowned Miss America, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

September 18 – U.S. heavy metal band Kiss officially appears in public without makeup for the first time on MTV.

September 27 – The GNU Project is announced publicly on the net.unix-wizards and net.usoft newsgroups. GNU is a foundation to GNOME which is what Linux may be built on. Out of Linux came the Ubuntu operating systems which I've been using since like 2007 or 2008. It looks like Ubuntu can be traced back to GNU which started in 1983. GNU is somewhat based on or built on Unix which goes back even farther many years or decades.

In 1984, the Chrysler Corporation introduces the first vehicles to be officially labeled as "minivans". They are branded as the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan, and Plymouth Voyager. 1986

Captain EO was a 1986 American 3D science fiction short film shown at Disney theme parks from 1986 through 1998. The movie stars Michael Jackson, was written by George Lucas, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola (who came up with the name "Captain EO" from the Greek, cf. Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn). The film was shown as part of an attraction with in-theater effects. The attraction returned to the Disney Parks in 2010 as a tribute after Jackson's death. The film was shown for the final time at Epcot on December 6, 2015.

May 15 – Soviet–Afghan War: After more than 8 years of fighting, the Soviet Army begins its withdrawal from Afghanistan.

November 22 - Tuesday - My mom was hit by a 1985 Chevrolet Suburban. I was three years old. My older brother pulled me out of the way before the vehicle could hit me as we were crossing the street.

Here is a photo above representing what the truck or car or whatever it was may have looked like. On the police report, it said the vehicle was silver/black.

It may be possible to track down the vehicle to get an exact clue as to what it may have looked like exactly. But for now, this will do.
