An Overview of a Song “The Sound of Silence” covered by Disturbed

A Brief Info on “The Sound of Silence”:

Originally, this song was released on September 12, 1965. "The Sound of Silence" is a brilliant song by the American musician, Simon & Garfunkel. It was written by Paul Simon. This song falls under the Folk Rock and Soft rock genres. It is one of the most covered songs nowadays. Love the covered Song though. And many Musicians have done their own cover of this same song, using their own credible and unique style of singing. But the pattern in which Disturbed used to sing the song is uniquely brilliant and creative, rising from low tone to the high pitch with deep voice — it's very toughy and invoking

This is how the song started:

“Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping"

And the vision that...”

In the first verse, at the beginning of the Song, the SONGWRITER is addressing to an unseen object in human form which he alone sees. Darkness seemed to be his only friend that listens to him. Sometimes, when we are alone in one side of the room, we talk to ourselves or somehow speak spontaneously to an object such like mirror and so on. This is what is brought to our view here.

What I enjoy mostly in this song really, is not just its profoundness, but the intensative crescendo of rhythms, and rhymes which simultaneously reoccurred in the Song. Plausibly, the imageries it paint are credible and touchy. But I'd say this Song is one of the best among all the songs that falls under Folk Rock and Soft rock genres due to the lyrical genius and vocalness which captured the vices in the society. I chose to write on it today, because of its invoking emotions, and rhythm of the song jolts with melodious Poeticness which made it more enjoyable and appealing. It thus seemed to be soothening and able to calm the mind, preferably during the late hour at bedtime. The song piggybacks not just a mere meaning, but its true meaning, therefore, paints a set of incidence happening around the society.

I feel that there are several interpretations to this song. Moreover, from my ‘Point of View' I see this Song as an echoing embodiments of the society in which the people (the inhabitant) who follow rules and norms laid down by the authorities, have become naturally dogmatical in the sense that they do not question the traditions and norms laid down for them (by the Authorities or Rulers). Here, the governments or leaders are superior and authoritarians. The rulers think for the people, and the people do not speak their mind, or question them irrespective of their dictatorship, because they seemed to be dogmatic and their voices are lost. Additionally, the ones that seemed to be secluded from the others, seemed to be silenced, because no one is ready to give ears to their Voice and take heed to their warnings :

“People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence"

Each line is deep, and speak an absolute truth in figurative language. Truly, the lines are amazing, and they speak in volume which make it to be touchy and would also make you think deep.
