Subterranean lightpainting on Hive

During the summer months we struggle to find locations dark enough to lightpaint earlier in the evening. Waiting for dark to arrive in the summer takes commitment waiting till gone midnight and then suffering the tired hangover of little sleep the following day. The prospect of late nights forces me to find dark locations earlier lead me to looking for caves....

Subterranean Lightpainter

A group of ne'er do well lightpainters managed to spend the day inside this abandoned WW2 bomb store. I spent ages faffing around with a laser pen mounted on a drill...

Geometrically Modifed Sparkler

Shot in an abandoned personnel tunnel under a disused railway, this is a camera rotation image which would take me half an hour to explain how it was done. All created in one exposure as usual.

Inside every lightpainter is another lightpainter trying to escape...

In the abandoned bomb store again with a zoom lens, a continuous light source and a lens cap trick. All shot in one exposure where I shot the first silhouette, then replaced the lens cap to prevent more light entering the sensor. I zoomed out then removed the lens cap to make the smaller silhouette inside the larger one.

Inside Chee Tor Tunnel No.1

One of our favourite "go to" locations is Chee Tor Tunnel in the Derbyshire Peak District. It's dry (apart from the drips from the roof) and only a mile or so from the car. Here I've used a work provided laser level to set up this beam using vape smoke provided by @fadetoblack who is posing patiently here.

Walk the walk

Under shot with @fadetoblack posing under the Peak District. Sometimes with lightpainting, keeping it simple is best.

Subterranean Alien

This shot was probably a bit risky for my camera's digital sensor. Note to self, don't do this again...
