Guy Fawkes night is fast approaching...

It's that time of year here in England where we celebrate the hanging, drawing and quartering of Guy Fawkes. This chap and his accomplices tried to blow up the House of Parliament in London but were caught and paid dearly for their crime. I'm not quite sure how long it'll be before it's considered politically incorrect to celebrate an execution but in the meantime I can enjoy the fireworks!

Spinning fireworks in a lime kiln

Back after a 3 month break, @fadetoblack and I sheltered from the rain in this lime kiln in Derbyshire; perfect for setting a firework off and spinning it on a drill....

I still haven't managed to set Tim alight....

Another shot in the same kiln, a little further back:

Evolution of a pyromaniac

It's not easy holding a heavy drill aloft for 30 seconds keeping perfectly still whilst running the risk of a spark hitting your hand....

It turns out that smaller, cheaper fireworks are better for long exposures in that they don't burn for very long and don't overexpose in an image. This is one of my favourite firework shots with the sparks spread perfectly evenly across the frame.

Shooting in an abandoned cowshed

On our way to another location, along the path we discovered this abandoned farm building; it would have been rude not to light paint it inside. In hindsight, I'm not sure if the excreted waste from livestock might have been flammable....
