A fellow once bragged about knowing God, while I was trying to talk to him about God and his son who is our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

He said he wouldn't listen to any of my rants concerning God, which according to him, he already knows, since he can differentiate good from evil.

He saw my words as mere rants and he based his knowledge of God on his ability to distinguish good from evil.

I got him mum when I asked him of the Genesis of the knowledge of good and evil, which he claims to have.

Since he couldn't speak again, I went ahead to show him that the knowledge of good and evil is the very symbol of the root of man's disobedience to God.

Genesis 2:17
[17]But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

What some people don't know is that the knowledge of good and evil is the very opposite of the knowledge God.

I bet the devil knows good and evil, even more than all of us.

Just to be clear, knowing good and evil isn't same as shunning evil and clinging to that which is good.

Man's inability to do that which he knows to be right, is known and witnessed by every human.

Haven't you seen the right thing before and yet did the wrong thing? Sometimes the wrong action wasn't premeditated but you just couldn't perform the right thing, it could have been a mistake. But the point is, you missed it. You did wrong. As person with good conscience you might become contrite and even regret your actions. You could even sought for repentance.

That's the right thing to do after you've been wrong. But that also exposes your inabilities.

Hence the statement;

Romans 3:23
[23]For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Sin isn't just an inability to do right, but a disability which bars a man from doing even what he recognizes to be right.

Just knowing right and wrong is not tantamount to knowing God.

God is life; a quickening spirit. He is the life that enables.

Through the gospel of his son, he offers himself, which is life or quickening spirit to a disabled or sinful man.

When he is received by faith in the gospel of his son, he then inhabits the disabled or sinful man eternally and therefore produces his work in and through this man.

Philippians 2:13
[13]For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

God works in the man that he inhabits or the man, which is the man that have received the message of his son.

So don't base your knowledge of God on the fact that you know good and evil.

How's that knowledge going to help you. It can not help because, though you know, you yet lack the ability to perform.

But the gospel offers grace that forgives and also enables.

The grace is received through faith in the gospel.

Ephesians 2:8-9
[8]For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9]Not of works, lest any man should boast.

The gospel is the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

1 Corinthians 15:1,3-4
[1]Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[3]For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[4]And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

God made the guiltless to suffer for the guilty.

He made the sinless to take the place of sinners.

Hence today and always he says to the unbelieving ones.

Romans 10:9
[9]That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Now lemme ask. Does this faith dwells in your heart?
